    Plz help

I see that pose in my lavender Ameraucanas from time to time. I've got one chick this hatch that is so bad, she rolls right over backward when she drinks. But she and all the others thrive in every other way. I won't use them as breeders but it doesn't seem to effect their survival potential so...

    Mites: I've tried EVERYTHING

I would be VERY reluctant to use cedar shavings with chickens. The aromatic properties of cedar irritate their lungs which can cause problems later in life and make them more susceptible to respiratory infections.

    Mites: I've tried EVERYTHING

Mites are probably one of the most difficult pests you will encounter. I know that has certainly been the case here. The trouble is, most of the stuff we use to try to fight them is only effective against mites for about 2 weeks. The sad fact is, you will probably never entirely eliminate the...

Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

This is EXACTLY how my mentors have been schooling me. When they bring in outside blood, they research it carefully and they don't contaminate their line with that blood until F2 has proven itself. Brother/sister may not be ideal (as one genuine Master Breeder tutored me) but it can reveal a...

Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

One does not have to hatch thousands of eggs to develop a line or a good bird. I have seen the evidence of that with my own eyes. One DOES have to cull - HARD. On that part we agree. However, with Marans, we still have to pick our battles because we are still dealing with so many issues. The sad...

Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Interesting that you bring this up. The thing I think is my major weakness is that I may have come to prefer the look of a Marans bird that may not necessarily be built to the Standard. It is what I am used to and what I have come to like, right or more probably, wrong. Wynette gets on me about...

Bob Blosl's Heritage Large Fowl Thread

There is a fairly serious and significant movement going on here (Ontario, Canada) right now to preserve, sustain, and, I believe, promote "heritage genetics", promoted by the "Poultry Industry Council" of Canada. http://www.poultryindustrycouncil.ca/ Likely significant to poultry in all of...
