    Live baby inside broken egg!

Baby didn't make it, unfortunately. :( I woke up the next morning and it was no longer moving. Very sad, but I can't say I was surprised.

    Live baby inside broken egg!

8 hours after opening the egg - chick is still alive, and I just replaced the gauze(which had some blood on it) with a clean, damp, folded up paper towel. The membrane was also looking a little dry in one place. I put a single, small drop of water on the dry area & that seemed to rehydrate it...

I'll be sure to keep this thread updated. Still more than willing to take suggestions as to help improve this babies chances of survival, if anyone has any!

    Live baby inside broken egg!

Six hours later...I just quickly pulled the egg out of the bator to check if the baby was alive or not - hopes were not up. Picked up the egg, removed the gauze covering, and looked inside. The baby wiggled - it's still alive! I dampened the gauze a bit more then replaced it over the top of the...

    Live baby inside broken egg!

Hey all. I have two silkies who have been sitting on a nest for about a month. They have two chicks, and decided that their remaining eggs weren't going to hatch & abandoned the nest today. The eggs were cold and scattered around in the dirt. I decided to check the eggs just to be sure they were...

6+ Dead Chicks & Broken Eggs

Correct, the two girls decided to put their nest underneath the coop - there's about 3 feet of vertical space under the coop. The coop has a metal gazebo frame in front of it, and both the gazebo and the coop are surrounded by hardware cloth - including under the roof and buried beneath the...

6+ Dead Chicks & Broken Eggs

Hi all. I went out of town on Saturday, and that afternoon before I left one of my eggs hatched. I have two broody Silkie hens that have been sharing a nest and eggs for about a month now. I also found a dead chick right before I left, which was sad but these things do happen so I didn't think...

    California - Northern

EDIT: Sorry for picture spam! Didn't realize how long the post was until after I posted. Hey everyone - I'm selling my flock. Mom told me after I got off work yesterday that my favorite hen, one of my original 6, had died. I was devastated, and to make it worse, I had to watch her get ripped...

    California - Northern

Hi! Welcome! If you think you're getting addicted now, just wait and see where you are in a few years. I started with 6 chickens...and today I just got rid of the last of my cockerels from the chicks I hatched out - don't remember how many there were, but I had set about 40 eggs in the...

    California - Northern

Hi all!! Long time no talk! Thought I'd jump back in with a chick pic and a dog pic... :) How have you all been doing? Okay, heck, I just stumbled across this picture...May as well include it, too! This was 9 weeks ago.

    Gender? *picture heavy!*

Hi all - I'm trying to sell the last of my chicks, but don't want to sell boys as girls or vice versa. So I was wondering if you all could confirm if my guesses are correct or not for each of the following chicks. A few birds don't have tails because they were picked on; the tails are growing...

    Pooping blood

Thanks guys. She said her friend is giving her medicine for it. Could it be cocci even though it only happened once?

    Pooping blood

Hi all - I sold someone two eight week old chicks. She sent me this picture and told me one of the chicks is pooping blood. I have not noticed any of my chicks outside pooping blood(but they live outside now so it's possible I just didn't notice), and I think it's only one of the chicks. But...
