    Moving a hen with chicks

Thanks for the replies! The moving went well, she seems to be happy in her new diggs. Sad news is when I went to move her one chick was dead :-( it was always a bit smaller than the other so maybe just too weak. Hopefully won't be too much of a problem later when it comes to integrating this...

    Moving a hen with chicks

Hi, I have a RIR with two little chicks that is in the wrong place and needs to be moved. A little background, she was broody for a few weeks so I bought her some chicks and slipped them under her last night. They are all looking pretty cozy this morning and she isn't looking aggressive to them...

    Sick pullet- respiratory?

Hi all, I've woken up this morning to a sick isa brown. She was fine yesterday afternoon when I refilled feed after work, then my husband shut them away after dark. Unfortunately he didn't notice that she was still in the run, not in the coop, so she slept outside. He gave her some corn this...

    Australian Shepherd chicken chasing …

I ended up getting a static correction collar for my kelpie cross. She was barking and digging, and actually managed to kill one of my girls by chasing to death( not biting). I know the collar sounds horrible, but I tested it on myself first and it wasn't that bad, like the shock from a car...

How early have your birds started laying?

This happened to me as well with my first two! They had taken ages (27 weeks old crossbreeds) but my brand new RIR laid yesterday at 18 weeks. I can hear her bashing around in the nest box now, hoping for another one :-)

Do I still need to quarantine if new birds are from the same hatchery?

Update on my flock, all is going really well! They were properly introduced to each other a few days ago after looking through the wire, and after a few minor scuffles everyone seems to be getting on well. My girls have also kept on laying the whole time :-)

    Breed Recommendations for a newbie

I love my australorp as well, she is so friendly she jumps on my lap. She also looks right up into my face when I talk to her :-)

Do I still need to quarantine if new birds are from the same hatchery?

Hi, I have two crossbred pullets and have now caught the chicken addiction and want some more! I am planning to get two 17 week old girls from the same place I got my first ones as they have been happy and healthy. Do I still need to keep the new ones in quarantine? I am aware of the...

    Non laying pullet moulting?

Thanks for that. She is a Leghorn cross Rhode Island White. I have been giving her a stern talking to every morning, but maybe she does just need time :)

    Non laying pullet moulting?

Hi all, I have two newish pullets, one of whom is laying, one isn't. They are both around 28 weeks old. The black one (Lucy) has been laying for over a month now (champion girl, and so sweet!), and the white (Daisy) not at all. Daisy has a red comb, and two fingers between pelvic bones. She...

Hi, I'm new to BYC (although I have been trobleshooting using your forum replies for a while!) and new to chickens. I just started my little flock with some cross breeds, I've had them for just under 2 months. I'm anxiously awaiting my first egg, but I'm hoping all the clucking and carrying on...
