2021 Calendars are here! Free US Shipping!

The pics look great, congrats to the winners! I would like to order some calendars, but haven't seen any complete pictures of it showing how it's laid out - pic on top, I assume, calendar below? (There are only two pics on the Sale page [front/logo and back(?) info/thumbnail pics page], so...

Lavender Marans roo with Splash and/or Blue Marans hens - what color(s) would I get?

I have a young (4 months) Lavender Marans cockerel that is quite nice. He came from a semi-local breeder of Marans (breeder states parent stock is "Lavender Marans Roo over Lavender Marans Hen"). I then bought several hatching eggs from a distant breeder - got 5 Blue Marans (parent stock is...

Help me understand the "Split" and "Split to" descriptions?

That was a very informative answer, Pyxis, thank you so very much! Really helped me to better understand the "split" terminology.

Help me understand the "Split" and "Split to" descriptions?

I see a lot of posts/info where people say something like, "I have a blah-blah that is a Split Marans" or "(talking about a black chicken) a black split to lavender Ameraucana", or "Lavender orps split to mottled". I know "split" is a thing, but I don't know exactly what it means... and I want...

Lavender Ameraucana: Older pullet not laying yet (long post)

UPDATE: She laid a pretty blue egg on 3-12-20! After much ado, back & forth swapping nests, kicking and scratching about for about 2 weeks or so, she did it. Hooray!!!

    Black Copper Marans for sale?

FYI: Springleaf states on their website that they are closing for the year due to some of their chickens getting sick: "I am sorry to inform you that I just found out my chickens are sick. We got test results are back. Unfortunately my chickens tested positive Mycoplasma Synoviae &...

Lavender Ameraucana: Older pullet not laying yet (long post)

Good idea about just letting her know the bird isn't laying and asking if she's had that happen before... and then seeing what she says. Non-confrontational. I like that. Thanks! :-)

Lavender Ameraucana: Older pullet not laying yet (long post)

Hi aart, and thanks for the info. Yes, the Flock Raiser is Purina. And yes, the birds do get a very wide variety of stuff - not a lot at a time, but a variety. Might too much of a variety be a problem? I checked the link for "Who's laying...", and I definitely know she is NOT laying; I have...

Lavender Ameraucana: Older pullet not laying yet (long post)

I have a 46 week old pullet (10-1/2 months old) who hasn't laid an egg yet. Her sister (same parents, same hatch) began laying at 21 weeks (about 5 months). They are Lavender Ameraucana's. I've checked for bugs (none), there are no physical issues (not showing any signs of sickness/illness)...

Can Serama hatchlings/chicks be put under a broody non-Serama hen?

Yes, my Ameraucana hen has indeed gone broody... so she hopefully would accept? My main concern is that the hen is a big breed, and the Serama's are sooo tiny. I thought perhaps a bigger breed might inadvertently squish the poor lil' chicks.

Can Serama hatchlings/chicks be put under a broody non-Serama hen?

New to chicken raising, so thought I'd ask first to ensure it'd be okay (or not?). Two months ago I successfully incubated and hatched 10 Ameraucana chicks - they are in with the flock now. I have a good incubator, and a nice brooder setup - they thrived! I also had a hen hatch two babies...

"Splash" Spangled Russian Orloff - is there such a thing?

Greetings, peeps! I'm a newb to the chicken breed identifications, and was wanting to try raising some Russian Orloffs. Mostly because I think they are beautiful... and fairly rare. My question is though, I like the splashy, lighter colors - is there such a thing as a "SPLASH" Spangled...

What do you get when you cross a Wheaten Ameraucana hen and a Blue Ameraucana rooster?

Can you get splash chicks from a Wheaten Ameraucana hen and a Blue Ameraucana rooster? If not, what would the resulting chick be - a Wheaton Blue Ameraucana? I have what appears to be a splash-colored chick from this breeding, but someone on another group told me I was wrong for calling her a...
