I have about 15 layer hens (hatched the first week of August LAST year, so they're almost 14 months old) that I need to find new homes for. I'm going to be moving back east in the Spring and I'm trying to place my livestock sooner rather than later so I don't end up in a bind come moving time...
Sounds like my chickens....technically, they can fly, but they never leave the yard. My chickens roost high up in the barn, much higher than my fence, but are content to stay in the yard.
I'm thinking about adding some khaki cambell ducks to my small flock of laying chickens (all hens, no roosters). My chickens free-range and have a barn to go into to get out of bad weather. The pasture is surrounded by 4-6 foot high fencing, and I've NEVER had a chicken fly out of my yard...
So I ended up with a "lost and found" turkey Friday evening..... I have chickens but this is my only turkey. All free-range, and I leave out Chicken Layer Crumbles for my chick hens.
Is it okay for the turkey to eat the same foods as the chickens? I feed my chooks kitchen scraps, layer...
So I've ended up with a lost-and-found turkey..... a young Royal Palm hen (thanks to the fine folks here at BYC for helping me ID her!).
I've got laying hens - chickens - and now one turkey. So do I need to buy a different kind of food for the turkey or can she just eat the layer crumbles...
If anyone comes looking for her I have no problem giving her back, obviously. But as long as she wants to hang out at my place, I don't mind keeping her around.
My neighbor knows pretty much everyone in the neighborhood - its not that big of a neighborhood! - and he said he doesn't know of...
So my next door neighbor rang my doorbell last night and asked me if I was missing a turkey. I told him that I only have chickens, not turkeys....and we walked over to see this on his front porch:
It let me catch it and I put it out in my barnyard (the neighbor didn't know what else to do...
I just found a new home for my two roos a few days ago They were both beautiful and good around my kids (8 and 9), but they were making a LOT of noise and it was driving me and my neighbors crazy! I live on a small .76 acre lot in a rural subdivision, so some of my neighbors have chickens...

Hmmmmm.... If the smell of skunk could kill, I'd have no chickens left! We get a LOT of skunk activity near me, and a few times its been so pungent in the middle of the night that its woken me up.
If you had chickens dropping left and right I'd be panicked...losing two over the...
Okie Dokie..... here are the two Roosters I'm giving away. Both hatched the first week of August 2009. The white and black guy is an EE from McMurray, the black/brown one is a mixed breed (?) that a friend gave me as a chick. I live in North Ogden near Smith & Edwards...if you want either or...

I'm in Farr West (North Ogden area)... I can try to get pics today but I make no promises .
Also I got them from McMurray so I don't know what color eggs they hatched from. They haven't started laying yet - at least I haven't found any eggs in the barn or in the snow....my chicks all...

If anyone's interested in almost-6 month old EE's let me know...I'm still trying to get my flock down to a manageable number! I'd like to see 7 hens and 1 rooster go.....
