    I am not positive its not the coop set up. It is small and the roosts are not very high. It is a prefab coop that we got talked into by a local chicken farmer (so I believed he knew what he was talking about). But it has been fine for almost a year.     I can't really lock them in, because their coop is way too small for them to stay in all day. I just wonder what else may be keeping them from going in at night. They will go in to use the nesting boxes, but not to sleep.

    My girls have been 3/3 for the last week We even have collected enough to gift our first dozen! They went to our neighbor to make up for the mornings that they may get woken up by our bagawking girls who want out of their coop.

    3/3 and all laid together in the same nesting box (they always use just the one) first thing in the morning (they are usually late layers)

    Chickens don't eat or drink at night, so as long as they are let out around dawn and not locked in until dusk it is not a problem to have the food in the run. I don't have food and water I my coop for space reasons and they are fine.

    Now that all of my ladies (3 of them) are laying we are having eggs for lunch every Sunday. We eat about 10-12 for a family of four. And usually my dudes get eggs for breakfast one day a week. I'm still buying eggs for baking though
