Mallard adopted 2 Pekins, will she leave in the fall?

I have two flying female mallards who live in a fully enclosed pen area. I have had a terrible time introducing my 3 week old pekins to my eight week old mallards. The mallards gang up terribly on the pekins ! I try every day to introduce The pekins to my female mallard mafia but it ends...

    Can Ducklings Get Colic/Gas?

I have turned off their heat lamp. They were outside yesterday with me and that is when I noticed the panting and breathing. It was overcast and 60 yesterday so I think I can rule out over heating. I mostly fear that its the start of an infection, although the duckling seems alert and perky...

    Can Ducklings Get Colic/Gas?

I have a three week old Pekin that has labored breathing and sometimes pants a bit for a few minutes. The duckling is eating well and drinking well. I have started them on Brewer's yeast because I noticed that this duckling was laying down to feed and seemed to at times limp a bit. I give my...

questions about mixed flocks and building a duck run

well good to know but will this change at least in perception? Obviously once the Pekins are fully feathered they will be much larger than the Mallards......But the age difference is so apparent right now. I feel bad for my Pekins because they are so loving !

questions about mixed flocks and building a duck run

Wish I could help but I am watching this thread with interest as I too have a mixed flock and am having a terrible time with my 7 week old pair of female mallards accepting my 3 week old pair of pekins sex unknown. It is troubling and upsetting to see the mallards peck and fight at the Pekins...

    should I take them out?

I was going to work in the garden this afternoon and thought while I was out that I would put my almost 3 week old ducklings into their new covered enclosure. I also thought I would let them dabble in a small water dish while out. It is supposed to be about 43 degrees and there is a wind. Do...

New Member/ Brand New Duck Mama

Greetings everyone! I have recently become a Mama for two Flying Mallard Ducklings! They are two weeks old, and I must say I am in love! Although duck eggs would be a bonus, my husband bought the ducklings for me as pets. They are remarkable already, but I worry for them as I am not used to...
