So I got home from my run tonight and my husband tells me our RIR has most of it's tail feathers plucked out and it's all bloody. Apparently we've identified the low chicken in the pecking order. I found a large dog cage on CL so ran out to get that so we could isolate her until she heals...

Can I get Southern AZ help please?

I'm new....but you may want to ask this in the AZ thread in the Where Are You forum. I would venture that most chickens are probably ok in our "winters". You may want to add some plastic sheeting or something to the sides to reduce a bit of the airflow during the colder season.

Ok, we're making progress! I had them eating out of my hand today! Once I got ahold of them, they would sit still for about 30 sec before trying to flap away. We were a bit mean and pulled them out of the next box and then blocked it off with some cardboard to force them to play and hang out...

Yay! I'm a chicken person! We picked up 3 from OK Feed tonight, a RIR, Barred Rock and supposed Amerucana. They are supposedly about 3 mos or so. I'll have to post a few more times so I can get a pic up here.

Just wanted to say hi! We're joining the chicken craze. I buy eggs from one of the neighbors, but his supply runs short sometimes, so we're thinking of getting a couple hens to supplement the egg production. Is craigslist (or here, I suppose) the best place to find older chickens? We don't...
