This is her, I was trying to get a picture of the saddle feathers.

I wondered about that. Her wattle and comb growth and brightness happened in a matter of days. I wasn't expecting eggs for another month or so but perhaps their body starts changing quicker than that. I've still had them on starter feed but maybe I need to start moving them to layer feed.

One of my buff ladies? is changing quickly and although I don't mind either way, I was wondering if I have a rooster. In the first pic, she's on the right and in the last picture she's in the middle. They are 17 weeks old.

Yes, I know. I let them out this evening for a bit. The three that get out all the time were already out. I made a couple of trips from the house to the coop and saw a hawk fly over to a tree in the field not too far away so I made the girls go back in.

Thank you all! I did keep the chickens in their run today, although a few of them can fly out. They all made it through the day, though. I will do some more work on their run area to try to keep them in and hope the raptor moves on.

It was right beside our deck. We have hawks but have never seen one that close to the house.

I was lucky for several broody girls but finally got Jezabell doing the broody thing. She is an ornery barred rock who is the smallest of my flock but the most daring. She would not break with the ice packs after a week so I have her in a 24"x18" crate with hardware cloth on the bottom, up on...
