Hi all,
I’m located in Northwest Arkansas and am looking to add to my flock of 8. Would prefer to add pullets that are already outside, no brooder babies. Looking for Marans (especially black copper but would like all kinds), Easter Eggers or Ameraucanas, Cream Legbars, Welsummers, Olive Eggers...
Ok so I think I'm about to be upset - do these look like male saddle feathers coming through to y'all?! I already have 7 cockerels out of my flock of 10 and now I think one of my "for sure girls" is a boy! :barnie He/she is an Easter egger about 4-5 months old. Thank you!
Hi all! We wound up with 6 roosters in our flock of nine and are wanting to butcher them. My husband and I have no experience - anyone know of anyone local to the northwest Arkansas area that would be willing to process for us? Everywhere I've looked up only does it on a massive scale. Thanks!!
Here is our entry! We have been dying to get an automatic door - and have been meaning to share all of the pictures of our coop building project! What good timing :celebrate We converted an old metal storage shed into a coop for our 10 ladies. These are our first chickens and we are so happy...
Thank you all again for your advice and references. Unfortunately we had to euthanize poor little Kevin tonight. The paralysis continued to worsen and we just didn't feel it was humane to continue to let him suffer. :(((( The rest of the flock is getting electrolytes and vitamins, in an attempt...
Thank you so, so much. I have just given him the vitamins I could find at the feed store. He is still eating and drinking, with normal poop. I spoke with my agricultural extension office's head veterinarian and he believes it is Marek's, possibly botulism or a vitamin deficiency. He echoed what...
Thank you so much for replying! I've read that some vitamin deficiencies can mimic Marek's...is there anything I should give him? Do you think I should put him back with the flock?
Oh no I wasn't blaming them! I just didn't know if they needed to know since it's so recent. These are my first...
That's what I'm so worried about...I isolated him, he's in a dog kennel in the garage with food and water. At what point should I cull him? Is there anything I can do for the rest of the flock? No one else has symptoms yet...Should I alert the breeder? I've only had them for 3 weeks.
hi all, my 3-4 month old Easter Egger (we think he's a cockerel but not 100%) has developed a very strange gait. It is almost like his legs are buckling out from under him. He sits down to eat and drink, and will take a few normal steps but not many before his legs seem to "go out." He is eating...
I know my Speckled Sussex were and are still cheeping, but they're only 8 weeks. I didn't really hear the other ones cheeping but it's hard to tell when they're all mixed in. I could definitely be off on the ages!
Ok so let's see some of my others, 2 lav orpingtons and 2 black copper marans. I'm thinking one pullet and one roo in each pair, but I'm pretty clueless. All 4 pics are different birds, all 4 ish months old.
The speckled sussex are supposed to be about 8 weeks old, and the easter eggers around 4 months.
That one is one of my suspicious about 4 month old easter eggers.
Thank you both for your answers!!
So far I've gotten opinions that say these 4 are all cockerels...say it ain't so! :fl Now I'm suspicious of all of my supposed "pullets!" Let me know what y'all think... there's 2 Speckled Sussex and 2 Easter eggers ....
