Arkansas folks speak up.........

Lol ok! No roosters it is! I'm looking at what types of girls I want right now. I've read that you can have a mixed flock as long as none are too awfully different, such as the Polish chickens. I'm looking mostly at temperament, because these sweet girls will be my babies, beauty, health and I guess pretty eggs would be a nice plus. My youngest daughter, she's 15, has set her mind to having an blue ameraucana. I understand that she would be lower on the pecking order, being shy. I hope that being my daughter's favorite blue pet bird that pays blue eggs will make up for that some...
We LOVE our Americaunas! Having a few blue eggs in the mix is crazy fun! And believe me, those little hens hold their own in the flock....:smack

Update! We just added 4 peachicks to our farm, and a week ago we hatched 3 chicks from our own hens. One Americauna, one black Marans, and one buff Orpington....all crossed with our beautiful barred rock rooster. Will be I nteresting to see how they turn out when they mature.

Hi all! We wound up with 6 roosters in our flock of nine and are wanting to butcher them. My husband and I have no experience - anyone know of anyone local to the northwest Arkansas area that would be willing to process for us? Everywhere I've looked up only does it on a massive scale. Thanks!!

How To Process A Chicken At Home | BackYard Chickens

If you can't find someone, and want to learn how to do it. That link is what my husband used.

He did it all on his own. My only recommendation if you want to process more then one. Is have them hanging but only bleed one to start. When you get close to the finishing up after plucking then bleed the next one. That way while you're cleaning up the other is ready.

Hello. I am from Russellville Ar. Welcome

We are going to depopulate our 4 year old flock. Would like to keep our phoenix rooster. Can't decide whether to go back to Cackle Hatchery or buy local. Just 6 layers probably(or 8 or 10, you know how it is). Want to keep things emptied out for a little while. Thoughts, comments? Anyone have chicks available in a month maybe? Want to start clean, except for my wonderful rooster. I have another Phoenix that could go to a good home if anyone wants him.
