DE all the way, it is totally safe (and good for your chickens if they eat it) and it should keep the ants away for a long time since it doesn't dissolve. I'd stay away from any kind of pesticides

You can't get the medias attention right now. Theres oil out there, didn't you know? You might get their attention if you tell the media that you were raising the birds specifically for the feathers to help clean up Bee Pee.
Don't listen to the naysayers - this is worthy of a fight ...
How Horrifying !!!!!! I am sick. I would strongly suggest going public with this. Go to every network that you can, contact to ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN try to get them to do a story on this and on how the Michael Vick thing isn't getting thru to kids. Make a huge effort to throw a spotlight on this...
I too fear for the dreaded crop impaction. Just reading and seeing the pictures on impacted crop threads are enough to swear me off of such things. Glad your pupwill be ok
It is beautiful and no doubt took a lot of hard work. Can't wait to see the finished run. One thing though, I am concerned that you might not have enough ventilation. Good Luck!
I am getting ready to build my open air coop (completely open at both ends (during the summer). Should I face the open ends east-west or north-south? Thank you in advance you wise chicken lovers
I really like the idea, however, I don't think that it very predator proof, from the top or bottom. It's neat because you could probably move it around relatively easily to let the chicks graze on new grass.
