Being "frugal" many of us are, does anyone feed the caught possoms back to their chickens / dogs / cats, etc. Hate to waste meat...

My dad told me that during the depression in So Illinois it was common to drag an animal carcass out to the woods to let scavengers eat it. He told me that he had once taken a big stick and beat on a dead horses ribs and then saw two opossums crawl out of it's butt!

Times were bad, but he never said anything about having eaten opossum. And no wonder why!

You took the easy way out. Bang you're dead. I don't own a gun so I have to a little more resourceful. I have caught several in my live trap or just in my run attached to my coop so they are just repetitively hit over the heat with my shovel!

Good job. The opossums we have in New Zealand look quite differant to yours. I reguly shoot the farm for opossums as the carry Teburculosis.

Nice shooting! .357 has a lot of recoil, so you had good presence of mind to keep at em. Good for you.
