Hi, I have 4 hens that are 9yrs old. One of them for the past 10 days has been having difficulty walking though her legs hurt. Upon inspection I think we have scaly leg mites here. I have been soaking Al of the hens legs, spraying them with antiseptic spray for hens, dunking them in oil then...
Hi there, I have 4 hens and they are 9 years old. I have one hen that is having difficulty walking and using her wings as she is off balance. She walks gingerly like they hurt. Upon closer inspection it looks like she has scaly mites. I have been soaking all of their legs in soapy epsom water...
Is it entirely possible that I never noticed her legs were so light?
Well is it entirely possible that I just never noticed her legs were lighter? If that’s the case then I’m okay with being an in observant dumb a$$ is that means she is okay. Hahaha! I don’t have pictures of her parents...
Oh my goodness! Thank you so much. It’s like Christmas early with this news. These are my little babies and I was so sad when I thought something was wrong with her feet. Why would hers be light pink and all her mates be dark grey when they are the same age and breed-I wonder?
Thanks so very...
Thank you so much for responding. They do lay albeit slowly in the warmer months and we are in the Northeast so they aren’t laying now. The other hens are the same age. I hatched them around the same time and they are same breed.
Yes her feet color has definitely changed. They used to be dark grey like the other hens. She is a blue favan
Thank you so much for answering-she is a Blue Favaucana and her skin has changed. It used to be dark grey just like the other hens which are the same breed as her.
Hello, I cannot figure out if this is bumblefoot, scaly leg mites or gout. She is one of 4 in a flock of ladies. She is about 8years old. All the other girls have normal looking dark legs not these pale pink looking things. This girls appeared with this situation. They are cool to touch and...
Hi there, I have a small flock of blue fauvanacas that are about 6 years old. One hen is very aggressive and was terrorizing one hen to the point where she would lay on it and not let it eat. It almost died because she would peck it and bully it so badly. I posted here and one thing that was...
This is a very helpful article but I was wondering: when I create a pen for the victim, can she sleep on the ground? Will a tree stump work or do I need to figure out some type of roost?
Please please please hear my pleas! I have been battling motes since the summer. I have tried everything and the only thing that gives my hens some relief is ivermectin topical with a long egg withdrawal. My birds are miserable, my coop is infested and I just don’t know what to do. They are once...

I had a very long battle with mites last summer (I'm in the southern hemisphere) and none of my usual tricks worked...
I left that part out: I am treating the coop with permethrin liquid diluted and I did try and treat the birds with it and it didn’t do anything!! They came right back within 48hours.
I upgraded to a new coop the beginning of the summer and NOTHING can permeate this coop. We live in a place full...
Hi All, well it turns out I have a pretty severe mite infestation. Thankfully no hens were lost. I had to bring out the big guns after trying poultry dust multiple times and then progressed to topical ivermectin with a prolonged egg withdrawal. It seemed like things cleared up well and I wasn’t...
Thanks for your response Mary! So, I should wait a week to treat the hens again? I keep treating the egg boxes, roost, coop and run.
I found some in my basement on the chicken coop equipment and did a massive clean out and treatment of my basement. My skin is crawling constantly!!
I got a new...
