I take a batch of coturnix eggs off the turning racks today. The first batch that were hatched here with my own breeders. I didn't candle or anything so I have no idea if I have fertile eggs or just wasted 2 weeks in the water.
Wish me luck!
So I had 2 males for 10 females in my coturnix breeding pen and one of the males died for some unknown reason. I tried to take a male from a later hatch, threw him in there and you can probably guess how that turned out. so what to do now? Can I take 2 males that were brooded together and put...
Thanks for the replies. The temp thing is the hard part especially with the 100+ temps we're gonna have this week. Even with AC the house won't be that cool.
Hello again!
Thanks so much for this awesome forum!
My first set of breeders are laying like crazy and I'm ready to start collecting my own eggs for hatching. I'm getting between 10 to15 eggs per day so I need to collect for about a week then start incubation. What's the best way to keep these...
Here's another variable to consider. I got my first eggs today! Very excited:) the problem is I have no place to separate and see who's laying so I guess I'll start with size and sex move to color then eenie meenie minee moe.
Size for sure here.
Here's another question. How do you know which hen is laying better? Do you watch and wait? A camera? Also I have more in the brooder and more in the bator but they are from the same egg supplier. should I maybe get a batch of eggs from a totally different source?
So Im getting ready to choose my breeders. I have around 60 quail and I want to end up with 30 breeders. So how do I pick? Besides the obvious male/female ratio, what do I look for? How do I choose?
I was a little nervous the first time but the place I wanted to get eggs from didn't have any and I hadn't found this site yet. I got a 75% hatch rate so I went with the same guy for the second batch and I got another good hatch. Unfortunately I sent a friend to the same eBayer and his batch of...
My 2nd hatch of jumbo coturnix just kicked off yesterday. I had a party going on Saturday and I was hoping to show the kids a hatch but nothing was happening. I checked on them as late as 10pm and still nothing. When I got out there yesterday morning I heard little peeps and I knew something was...
I would assume some of you use these. I hooked mine up but they didn't work the way I was hoping. The biggest problem is my brooders are indoors and the cups were making a soaking mess. is it something in how I hooked them up?
Any help is appreciated.
