Ok I have 6 eggs in my incubator that are due Saturday however when I put them on lockdown 2 of them had their beaks into the aircells already. The other 4 I couldnt see much, too dark which I am assuming is a good sign? One of them, a pekin, pipped last night and fully hatched about noon today...
I'll try and get some pics tomorrow, I don't have any at the moment. It's not natural, we had it dug earlier this year, it's about 12 feet deep in the middle and is probably about 12'x12', probably larger than that, I am horrible at estimating dimensions. I have 30 females that all use the pond...
Is there any type of fish I can get to help clean my pond? The ducks have it looking really nasty and I have no electricity down there so I can't run an aerater (Sp?) My husband said use suckers, no idea what kind of fish those are and where would I find them?
OK, I am stumped. My girls have been laying for a few weeks now and I can't get clean eggs! I completely stripped and cleaned their house and refilled it with shavings, a nice thick layer of them, I still got dirty eggs! Is there anyway to get decently clean eggs? I don't want to have to wash...
I am not a fan of efowl myself, but I have to defend the birds. The birds, at least mine, came from Metzer Farms in California, I ordered through efowl. I believe they are just brokers, I don't think they have actual birds themselves.
My ducks have just started laying and a thought occurred to me (Kind of dumb that this didn't hit me earlier) do all breeds lay all year? Can anyone tell me if any of these breeds lay all year:
golden 300 hybrids
white hybrids
rouens
pekins
fawn and white runners
black runners
chocolate runners...
With the heat right now it might not be a good idea to ship eggs, I know I have had terrible luck with shipped eggs the last month or so. Check out your local farmers markets or chicken swaps.
Does anyone know any hatcheries that sell ducks besides Ideal that accept paypal? I sell a lot on ebay and it's a pain to transfer money to my account and then have to sit and wait for it to arrive then order, especially when you see a good deal and want to jump onit. Sigh. So anyone know any?
I learned something last night that I thought would make an interesting subject so I'm going to post it here. The theory of the origin of the Loch Ness monster "Nessie" is that it is a plesiosaurus that survived the ice age. Now I know chickens are closely related to dinosaurs and I know that...
Wow here they pay $4 a pound for turkey at the farmers markets. If I have to get 50 lbs. of feed into every bird I'm only at $17 per bird in costs because we home process our birds. At the market I'll get at least $60 per bird. I think it's crazy to spend so much on a turkey, but people do all...
I bought 7 turkeys tonight from a breeder and had a few questions. It looks like they are 2 different breeds but he assured me that they were all chocolate turkeys, just in different color phases. Some are spotted chocolates and some are dark chocolates, can anyone explain how this is possible...
Does anyone out there have fertile turkey eggs? I bought 14 bourbon red turkey eggs from an ebay seller a few weeks ago and only one was fertile! Yikes! Anyway, I can't seem to get turkeys around here and now I have one little lone turkey about to hatch and he'll be alone all winter unless I can...
