    Ticks & Chiggers

    Chiggers are vicious and I've got the bites and bruises to prove it! I just use something like deep woods off. Clearing the area of brush and high grass helps. DH & I did alot of that today. We bought some DE to sprinkle around but didn't get to that today.

    [LIST - Over 1,000 names!] Chicken names!

    We got all our chicks (pullets) named. The Easter Eggers are: Star Milly Olive The Barred Rocks are: Tess Mia Curley Rhode Island Reds (DH named these girls ) Red Rose They are five weeks old and no sign of a roo yet! To tell the truth I was sorta, kinda hoping one might accidently be a roo!

    Jake did a good job last night! We live in the woods and have lots of racoons although I have never seen any in our fenced backyard. I believe that is due to Jake being back there. That being said....we've never had any chickens in the backyard either. Hopefully the coop will hold when...

    Hope this is a deterent for any raccoons....

    Today is the first day/night for our 8 four week old pullets in their new coop. Jake our coon dog is willing to keep the wild life out of the coop. I'm just hoping he will behave himself! The girls are locked inside the coop. Hopefully all will go well tonight.

    My chicks are twice as big as they were yesterday.

    My eight chicks are growing like weeds too! They look different today than what they did yesterday. I'm going to have to dig the big dog kennel out and make them a new brooder. We've got to get the coop/run finished fast!!!
