    Ticks & Chiggers

Chiggers are vicious and I've got the bites and bruises to prove it! I just use something like deep woods off. Clearing the area of brush and high grass helps. DH & I did alot of that today. We bought some DE to sprinkle around but didn't get to that today.

Hope this is a deterent for any raccoons....

Jake did a good job last night! We live in the woods and have lots of racoons although I have never seen any in our fenced backyard. I believe that is due to Jake being back there. That being said....we've never had any chickens in the backyard either. Hopefully the coop will hold when...

Hope this is a deterent for any raccoons....

Today is the first day/night for our 8 four week old pullets in their new coop. Jake our coon dog is willing to keep the wild life out of the coop. I'm just hoping he will behave himself! The girls are locked inside the coop. Hopefully all will go well tonight.

    Newly Hatched...with PIC!

I'm new, but I think you're suppose to dip it's beak in the water and give it cooked, smashed egg yolk. She is adorable! Please keep us posted on her progress!

    Egg in the brooder!

I just came downstairs....haven't even had my first sip of coffee yet. My DH walks over to the brooder full of 3 week old pullets and starts staring in wonder as he says, "EGG!" I'm giving him the "look" as I'm trying to process why/how there could be an egg in in the brooder....when I...

My chicks are twice as big as they were yesterday.

My eight chicks are growing like weeds too! They look different today than what they did yesterday. I'm going to have to dig the big dog kennel out and make them a new brooder. We've got to get the coop/run finished fast!!!

My planned chicken run used to belong to my dog...

Thanks for this thread. I was discussing this with DH the other day as we are going to use our dog's kennel for the chicken run also. Ours has cement pavers in place. The dog hasn't been in it for the past year. We will have to rework some wire at the bottom as suggested earlier and cover it. We...

Originally the coop was going to be for 4 chickens so he was making 4' panels Here the 4 panels are put together Then chicken math got us and we got 8 chickens. So, he made 2 additional 4' panels and added them to make it 4 x 8. It is all held together with 3" deck screws. He is going to...

Pictures of barn wood coop exteriors

I think it is a wonderful idea to use the old wood. I had posted a vintage coop last night that I found while doing my genealogy. Good luck and I know you'll love it! https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=467895
