I have a Barred Rock rooster and 8 peeps. The peeps are playful and friendly but the rooster on the other hand is aggressive, mean and freaking loud. He doesn't crow, he screams all day long. Hubby hates him.
Here are two chickens whose genders are in question. I actually heard someone crowing this morning but still do not know which one did it or if both could be doing it. My phone does not take great pictures so this is what I have. I don't have a zoom.
Sorry, I'm having so much trouble navigating this website today. As I started to say on the first page, a few months ago one of my hens disappeared. She was known for going on a walk-about so I wasn't as concerned as my hubby. There was no evidence of
FOUL play so I came to the conclusion that...
It works very well in Florida. The outdoor restaurants, especially near the water use fishing line to keep the seagulls from invading patrons dining outdoors.
He came in the yard in broad daylight. I let the chickens out of their coop in the morning and they free range in the yard (2.5 acres) until evening. Recently one of my hens brought me 4 new biddies that are RJ's. Hopefully one of them is a roo.
Saturday morning a fox dug under my chain link fence and made off with my beautiful rooster. I'm sure he was doing what he does best, protecting his girls. I think the hens are in shock because I haven't gathered a single egg since.
RIP RJ.
One of my hens went on walk about last month while we were on vacation. My husband said something must have carried her off but I didn't think so because there were no feathers or blood anywhere. Low and behold all these years I have never had any of my hens sit long enough to hatch eggs. LOOK...
I have been reading this thread because I have a hen that sometimes wants to be broody but after 2 weeks, she gets up and changes her mind. I have no idea what to do when my hen starts setting because this is a first for us. None of my hens have ever decided to be a mom. I think it sounds...
There was a wound on her head and around her left eye. When I let her heal for a couple of days and let her out with the flock, she was attacked immediately now the head wound is bigger. I've had her back in the tub for about a week. My chickens free range in the daytime so they are not confined...
One of my hens has been injured. I'm not sure by what, but the other hens keep viciously attacking her now. I keep her in a large plastic storage box with wire on the top to keep them away from her. Is this normal chicken behavior and am I going to have to keep her away from them from now on?
