This morning I found my young avocado tree had it's cage knocked over and all the leaves were eaten. No prizes for guessing who did it. But judging by the 'set inness' damage, this must have happened yesterday. Luckily this morning my flock all seem fine. In fact when they noticed me fussing...
Hi all
I have a question regarding chicken behaviour:
I have an Orpington who lays fairly regularly (about 5 times a week) but on the days she does lay, she causes such problems in the flock. When she goes into the nest box, she hogs it for HOURS. She's not broody, she does eventually leave...
@hedz82 LOL, I don't think it's gross at all. Chicken poop is wonderful stuff. I always gather it up and put it in the garden. Makes the veggies awesome :D
p.s. Chicken diapers? please tell me you're kidding?
@AndyCap That is too adorable!
LOL. ah poop. Yes, she is free to run in the house ONLY when I'm around. And poop is actually not really a big problem. I just keep a roll of toilet paper handy. Not that I need it all that often, oddly enough.
That is soooo sweet! Orpintons are the best. I images she must be adorable.
Is she house-trained? I have one chicken who likes to hang out indoors with me. But she still drops a poppy whenever she feels like it. It's not too bad, I just keep a roll of toilet paper handy. No harm, no foul ;)
Chickens are very amusing pets. (I'm sure it's not just mine ;) ) If you make sure there's always a camera nearby, you can get some pretty hilarious footage sometimes.
The kitty didn't think it was too funny. But it really wasn't a sore peck. He just over-reacted
But you can get some idea of what he thinks of the chickens in the beginning of this vid: He pretty much wears that facial expression every time they're around
I thought I'd share these clips with you guys: My one chicken (Princess Leia) likes to come in the house (NONE of the others ever dare) and will often sit on the carpet at my feet while I'm working. It's too adorable.
This morning however she felt like exploring. I found her up on my bed...
That's funny. I am not far from Randburg and we never see Hawks (or genets for that matter) Perhaps I just haven't spotted them. In which case I have been very lucky! We haven't lost a single chicken to a predator.
