Sick red Frizzle rooster - please help!

Got home from a short vacation (adult was taking care of pets) and discovered one of my roosters just standing in one spot with his eyes shut. It got very cold while we were gone and I have a feeling he stayed in the enclosed yard and did not go in the coop because he normally sleeps outside...

    Help!!!

Thanks for all your kind wishes. Out of all my chickens (17), she was my baby and the one who would always sit on my lap and want to be held. Never thought I could get so attached to a chicken, but I sure did. She was one of a kind. Sweet Pea was her name and sweet she was. Thanks again. Gail

    Help!!!

I took her into my vet and she died while I was there. She had a soft-shelled egg inside her and was full of peritonitis. There was also fluid throughout her whole body. Thanks for your responses. I am just heartsick.

    Help!!!

Just got home from 2 days away and found one of my female banties with a swollen abdomen, sitting in a straight upright postion, like a kangaroo. She is skin and bones. Was fine previous to our leaving. She had watermelon as a treat the day we left. She is my BABY and I am sick about this...

    Need flock advice

I have 11 bantam hens and 6 bantam roosters. Have tried to find homes for the roos, to no avail and I just cannot bring myself to put them down. So, I have two roos each (they get along, but only with one another) in one cage, two others that get along in another, and the third pair that get...

ducks and chickens - sharing food

I've had ducks for years and added chickens a year or two ago. Have always fed my ducks the Layena mash and they've all lived to be over 15 yrs. old. So when I got the chickens, just continued to feed the Layena, but in a separate bowl, since the ducks always would get it wet.

    Still Broody!!!

I wrote before about my hen not leaving the nest, but also not laying any eggs. Well, I've changed everything around, including the nestboxes and now she is "nesting" on the roost and not leaving it. Still no eggs, but she is determined to just sit there. If I move her and put her by food and...

Broody hen - but no eggs? Please help.

I have a 6 mo. old bantam hen that went broody about a month ago, sitting on two eggs. I removed the eggs and every day for about 3 days, I had to take her off the nest. Then she would eat and drink and after 3 days, seemed to get over the broodiness. Last week I noticed her in the nest...

    Lumps in both rear legs

Thank God, Rosie is okay!!!! NO cancer, just infection in the nodes from her allergies. My vet started her on a new medication for yeast infection, upped her prednisone and upped her antibiotic, and so far today, she hasn't chewed herself at all! Thanks for all your prayers and help. It is...

    Lumps in both rear legs

Just tried to correct "picky" gland with the correct word, but somehow the system changed the word to "picky" again. Will try one more thing --- it's one of the two glands located under his tail --- the A N A L gland. (Let's see if it changes the word again!) It didn't!!! Yippee!

    Lumps in both rear legs

Forgot to add --- don't know where "picky" gland came from. The bump was in one of his picky glands.

    Lumps in both rear legs

Took Rosie in to the vet today. He did an aspiration of the lymph node in one back leg. It could be lymphoma as the nodes in her neck, groin, and back legs are all slightly enlarged. The nodes in both back legs had gone down dramatically since last week though. He also said it could be from...

    Lumps in both rear legs

Just discovered lumps in both rear legs of my Westie. She is 14. At first I thought it was her leg muscle, then realized it was not. Both legs have one and they are between a quarter and a fifty-cent piece size. I have a vet appt. for Monday, but wondered if anyone else has encountered this...
