Funny story about two of our chicks.
First, their "mama's were both RIR's.
Second, their broody mama was a Ausie. She is a great mama, raised yhem for about six weeks and then set them on their way. However..
Third, on of my CM hens started molting, and adopted the pair as hers and kept them...
I love the broody hens, I currently have over 30 hens, and of those only two CM's and two BA's had gone broody, until now. I currently have a bantam mix, porcilne mix, she went broody last week. So I gave her 3 eggs and we will she what she will do.

Malibu, bacon chicken I like it!
Sumi, sour milk huh, that's a interesting smell for a chicken.
I will be in coop soon and have to sniff for more exotic...
Ok, now that I have your attention!
I was wondering if any one else has noticed what their chickens smell like?
I was holding one of favorite sweet hens the other day, and smelled corn flakes! So I did what any chicken owner would do, I sniffed my hens neck and yep, she smelled like corn...
Fred's Hens is correct. I'm sure if I did a total cost per dozen it would be cheaper to buy from a store, but the quality of the egg would be no where near as good an egg from my hens. I currently have 20 layers and average around 10 eggs a day. My flock is also rotated in age as well. My oldest...
