4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

I hear ya, 5 kids of my own and I swear I got sick with each one at some point! Take are of yourself!!
I never got sick with my son... but I was sick enough with morning sickness that I was miserable anyway....
I am trying to take care of myself (and my six year old... he's got it too) but my biggest issue is the lack of humidity in the house. lol. I need like, 10 humidifiers. xD

Well, I did not enter the official contest, however I did start a clutch. here are the numbers.

Started with 30 eggs, 4 duck, 4 bantam, 22 hen. Candled eggs after 4 days and 4 chicken eggs did not start.

The remaining 26 eggs were doing great until.....Day 15 unknown power loss after went to bed. incubator temp at 66 the next morning. Checked cord and receptacle all good, seems the temp dial got "turned down". increased heat got temp back to 99, hoped for the best.

Day 17- candled eggs again, saw movement in most, some did not make it.

Final numbers...

6 chicken hatched, one has a "limpy" leg, but is doing fine.
All 4 bantams hatched, one however cannot walk only "crawls" around.
Ducks are on schedule to hatch Monday the 7th, one of them has not made it.

We are happy that so many hatched after the Cold night they had.

Happy to read about all the hatches on here.

BTW I have one hen broody right now, I am letting her sit on 3 eggs. Maybe she will be a good Mommy, her first clutch!!

Wow, as I sit here, right this moment ... not a sound in the house. Hubby went to bed and took 3 of the dogs and a cat. Son is in bed. I put the other 6 dogs to bed, the lovebird is covered and all the peeps are asleep ... for the moment

Hello 3 am. :) I woke up to check the chicks and the bator... :)

I have two little guys that are working on hatching... they keep chirping at me, and I keep telling them "Well come on then." :p

And here's my little assist that was so pitiful last night...

Isn't she pretty. ^.^
What a gorgeous lil baby she is!
GOOD MORNING!!!! I hope everyone has a wonderful day.
Good Morning Michael!

Look what I just found in my bator! :D Chick #4. This one has the same coloring as my assisted hatch silkie chick, but no head bump.... but it DOES have the extra toes. ^.^

Cute chicks and nice waterer!

After I eat my breakfast I'm going to let everybody out and check on the eggs. I have a feeling I'll be helping quite a few chicks out this morning.

7 little chickens..I need a dozen please!

missy did she rupture or tear a vein like my little ducky did?

She pipped at the wrong end, I never would've even knew she pipped, but I decided to candle before tossing the eggs and shutting off the bator...and found her pip....have no clue how long before I found it that she pipped...so i peeled back the egg...and eventually put a hole in the membrane for her as she couldn't seem to. I've slowly pulled back more and more as she seems unable to move (think she is/was shrinkwrapped as I couldn't get my humidity up until literally after she pipped! I don't know if i pulled too hard...cause there was no blood when i put her back in the bator...but the last time I pulled her out...there was blood down in the one corner of the shell....she's "panting" and when I put water on the membrane to try and see through it...she moves her head till she gets some water off my finger...i don't want to give her too much, as I don't want her to drown...but by the same token..I don't want her to dehydrate either....

And THIS is why I didn't want to incubate...and fiancee says I'm done. He won't allow me to do it again.
