4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

hapjr..congrats on your first chicks! Hoping for more..pictures when they are in the brooder..right? :))

It's 3 degrees here right now. Better than the - 2 yesterday morning. I've already heard the egg song from someone out there. Best get that egg. Went out the other morning to a split frozen egg. Never had that happen before.

Here's the little loudmouth right after it got put in the brooder yesterday.

LOL cutie I have a loudmouth too!!

Oh boy, I'm loving all of the baby pictures! I have a few of my own. My Nankin started to really make noise around 4:30 in the morning, you know I had to get up to check. It started zipping real around 5..was out by just before 6. I put a towel in the brooder for her, she thinks it's mama, when she hears a noise, like me walking in, she ducks right into the towel. Cute.. I call all of my babies "she" when they hatch. Wishful thinking on this one for sure.

She started liking the handling, and was snuggling up against my hand, then I held her
close, and she snuggled right up under my chin. I love chick babies. Precious. :)
awwww look at her head!! CUTE

After this sudden death of my Roo, Melvin....

I am wondering how many others had issues with Styrofoam and/or Plastic and their chickens????

after two sudden deaths in less than a month and finding styro in the run, we are pretty sure this was the cause.
I have heard a bunch of others that had deaths due to styro and plastic...
I am sooo glad I did NOT plastic the run for protection this year!!!
I also noticed that my DH had put a black trash bag in the trash can feed bin and pulled it around the outside edges and by the time I got to seeing it the trash bag was half eaten and frayed, they attacked it like no tomorrow!!!

One of my hatched chicks rolled the eggs that. Just pipped so the pip is on the bottom. Wondering if I should reach in and turn the egg.
