4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

I've got one more pip this morning. And I am crossing my fingers and hoping it hatches because this little lone chick is driving me absolutely batty. My lone ducklings have been good about adopting a stuffed animal or whatever I put in the brooder for company, but this little one is having none of that so far. It's amazing how loud something so small can be.

So I'm really hoping it will have some company by tonight, so everyone can get some sleep.

Here's the little loudmouth right after it got put in the brooder yesterday.

Oh boy, I'm loving all of the baby pictures! I have a few of my own. My Nankin started to really make noise around 4:30 in the morning, you know I had to get up to check. It started zipping real around 5..was out by just before 6. I put a towel in the brooder for her, she thinks it's mama, when she hears a noise, like me walking in, she ducks right into the towel. Cute.. I call all of my babies "she" when they hatch. Wishful thinking on this one for sure.






She started liking the handling, and was snuggling up against my hand, then I held her
close, and she snuggled right up under my chin. I love chick babies. Precious.

Sweet! Is she really that orangey golden or does the camera alter her color?

I woke up to 12* here in northern MN... My first thought... Oooohhh... It's WARM out today!!!

Exactly what I thought when I got up this morning and it was also 12*. My second thought was about all the outdoor things I can get done on a "warm" day like this.

Hope when you get home from work you have some strong peeping chicks ready for the brooder.

Champer..good question! I kept trying to get the real color of her. She isn't that orange. She is mostly the color of her wing that is hanging a bit in that last picture. But yes, the head is a little more dark.

Jessiey, hope you are feeling better..hope you got some sleep! You need to rest. As if you didn't know all ready! Lots of babies for you, and I have to let you know, I am loving that blue!

I also thought how "warm" it is at 9*, and when I saw that it isn't supposed to get below zero for the next few days. Ah the joys of winter in MN.
