It is so weird: they hatched at same time in same incubator and have been in the same brooder since day 1! Odd that they're sticking with their own kind.. Haha! Oh, one of the cuckoo marans? My current thinking is there might be 3 boys n 2 girls.. :hit

Just wanted to ask if it is normal for different breeds to segregate themselves like this? They all usually rest together but when theyre active the black ones always stick together..

Well... we've decided to get all 5 chicks. Got my fingers crossed for girls and for finding good new homes for them if boys.

Thanks for your replies. The company got back to me and said the black ones look like cuckoo marans- but the guy said that the one you've said looks male looks female.. it was a different pic I showed him tho- one I took yesterday- do you think they're cuckoo marans too? I would post pics at 6...

I'm afraid I didn't get pictures of the birds while they were walking around :( I will try to find out from the company what other possible breeds they are. I think the 2 black ones are one breed and possibly the other 3 are another. There was small white eggs and some larger brown eggs so...

Hi, my little boys nursery has hatched some chicks and we said we'd like to take 3 girls.. however the new company they used hasn't supplied them with chicks that can be colour sexed.. there was a definite mix of eggs- possibly some were pekin bantams n not sure of the others. I've took photos...

Update: This chick survived and turned into a lovely healthy hen who has just started laying! :love

Thanks for the advice :) I'm back in work today so I will get the avipro. He is still going. :) Hes had a little elastic band/plastic straw brace on his legs, ive just taken it off to see how he does without it as he was trying to scurry about and it was restricting him. He is able to walk now...

He doesn't seem to want to peck at anything tho? But then again I am putting stuff into his mouth for him so maybe that's hindering the instinct to peck? Or maybe his neck isn't strong enough to do any pecking yet?

Thanks for your reply. :) I'm doing what I can and hoping it will be enough for him to become strong. I don't have nutridrench I'm afraid. He has made progress today. I see him lifting his head more often and being more upright, though he does still end up with his butt in the air and head on...

.. still unsure if im doing anyrhing right. If I post this somewhere else in the forum am I more likely to get help?

He sounds like hes making a little clicking noise when breathing.. is that a respiratory problem? :(

Hi Thanks for your reply. He is still with us. I've just checked on him and sorted out his pasty butt. Yes he has warmth and im just about to give him more water but i still dont know how much to be giving him.. dont know any more than i did yesterday really :(
