Okay I just went to go peek at her.
She's out of the coop wandering around with her sisters now. So what was she doing?! I was hoping for another egg! Lol
Getting Ready?
I have one girl who was wandering with her sisters earlier and now sitting in a nest box. How long does it take to lay an egg? These are 17 or 18 week old sexlinks. She's been in it about 20 mins now, preening the shavings and placing them around her. She's laying on the tester egg and moving it...
So exciting!!! One of our 18 weekers laid an egg yesterday and today and then just a few mins ago I found the soft membrane of two more side by side under one of the hens while on the roost. I'm assuming that's another one that's getting ready to lay and is it normal for that to happen while on...

An update here... We weaned them off the light over the course of several days and now they are great :) they've even doubled in size. It's cute to see them out themselves to bed. They were fine even in the 25 degree nights.
I am not sure what is going on. I will look at them again when I get home. I DID notice one of the chickens yesterday opening her beak occasionally then closing it again. She did this every few seconds.....
Two days ago I noticed blood smeared on the roost (we use the 4" side of a 2x4) -- I checked vents and feet and all seemed OK.. unless I missed something? I am VERY new to chicken owning. The girls are about 7 weeks old give or take. They are also acting completely normal.... Ideas?? thoughts??
It's constructed of plastic pallets with plastic hardware cloth on top. Which may get changed to plastic pallets on top if they are alive when I get home .....
