I was gathering the eggs this afternoon and noticed a nasty looking piece of poop....looks like worms to me. I have never had to deal with worms before...Can I eat the eggs if my chickens have worms?? What wormer should I use to treat them?
Help!! My backyard is infested with mosquitoes!!!! I can’t even go outside for a minute without being bit. As far as I know, there is no standing water around my house. I have dumped any containers that I found. Is there anything I can spread on the ground to repel the mosquitoes that won’t hurt...
Got our first egg this morning from one of the ladies!!! they are a little over 4 months. I knew they were getting close bc some of them were squatting when I put a hand on their back. not sure who it was, but I'm one proud chicken lady!
i am curious about wood shavings too. right now my 6 chickens are stomping around on a dirt floor covered in poo and mud. it's already starting to stink and they've only been in the coop for 2 weeks! we've had lot of rain around here. I want to add shavings but i'm afraid they will get soggy...
I have a cat, but she has yet to show any interest in eating the chickens! she's actually afraid of them hahahahah. especially when they are flying around!
our coop is finally finished! we purchased 6 RIR chicks back in March and boy do these things grow like weeds!!!!!! We just finished the coop yesterday and they spent their first night in it last night. they DO NOT like that ladder, let me tell ya! I had to catch them one by one and put them up...
My husband and I are about to build a coop for our not-so-little-anymore chicks!
I have decided to go with an a-frame due to limited space in our urban back yard, but I would like to hear from those of you with an a-frame. Any suggestions about ramp placement? I've heard that the chickens...
I tried using a Dasani water bottle, but the water kept leaking out because the plastic was too thin. I actually ended up using the plastic quart jar that came with the chicks' original waterer. I just drilled a hole in the bottom, stuck the nipple in and "voila" no more leakage!
I can vouch for the poultry nipples. my chicks kicked the shavings all in the water before, not to mention pooed in it!! yuck!!! I was really sick of cleaning it all the time so I switched to the nipples. I will never go back!!! no more poo-ey water!
