    GQF Sportsman Questions--

I have the 1202A and love it. Had it over 10 years and never once had any problems. It holds the temperature within a few 10ths of a degree. I have added the external water supply so I don't have to worry about running out of water during the incubation process. I just set it and forget it...

Selling Hatching Eggs, How Much $ Should I Charge?

I bought my last eggs locally off Craigs list and was charged around $2.50 per dozen. I have seen others charge up to $6 per dozen.

Frustrated teacher having trouble with class hatching

Toss the old dark eggs and keep just the newer ones. The lady that gave you those older eggs must not have known or cared what she was doing. Sounds like the eggs were partialy incubated and should never have been taken away from mom.

How much will newly hatched chicks move around?

They will climb over. My last hatch the chicks were able to get over a 2 1/2 inch border. As far as the shredded paper, replace it with paper towels. The paper will stick to the wet birds and could hurt or kill them. Some people let them hatch on shelving pads or just wire mesh. Mine have...

    Beak doesn't line up?

As long as she is eating and drinking properly, she should be fine. It is when the alignment is so out of wack where the baby can't eat or drink is when the danger happens. We just picked up a set of 4-H chicks for my son yesterday and one of the chicks had a crossed beak. I hope the UT guy...

    Sell ducklings for photo shoot?

I love all types of poultry and if it were myself, I would not do this, even if I could double my money. They are babies and rely on you for their safety and wellbeing. To me, it would be like me giving my newborn child to someone to "borrow" without me being around to protect the child. They...

Husband is really going to kill me over my chicken math skills!!!

You know, my chicken math has been off before. At one time, several years ago I had over 200 birds growing, costing over $200 per month in feed. After several years of having no birds I decided to raise chickens again this year. Built my coop and bought some eggs on Ebay. Out of 40+ eggs...

    which are the best incubators

In my opinion, the Sportsman incubator from GQF is by far the best. I have used the foam incubators and never had great hatches, except in my Sportsman. I have the electronic multi-turn thermostat and it holds the temp exactly where I want it. This one you can set and forget. I remember one...

    Please Help With Thermometer?

You need to calibrate the thermometers. The ones I purchased have the probe wire attached. What you do is fill a glass with crushed ice and then fill it with cold water. Let the water stand for about 5 minutes to stabilize and then put the probe in the water. It should read 32 degrees after...

    New hatcher questions.

They will be just fine. Go ahead and start turning them.

Chick not standing after 5 hours

Just give the little fellow some time. It may take several more hours before it can get the strength to stand up and walk properly. At that time it will still wobble until its leg muscles train themselves to act right. If I was stuck in a small egg like them, it would take a while for us to...

Can You Tell Me About the Favorite Leah Incubator, sold in 1970s?

If you are going to pay that much, I would go a little more and get the GQF Sportsman. I have one and it will set almost 300 at a time and you don't have to worry about the turning, since it is automatic.

    For a future brooder

That will work fine. I also used something like that years ago and they worked out great.
