I was hoping to jump on ship! My story is bittersweet.
I had 2 ducks, a Rouen and a blue Swedish. I thought they were both male only to discover the blue Swedish was female (I noticed they laid an egg)
. At the end of March they started laying and laid an egg every day. I started collecting the eggs and incubating them April 7. Fast forward to the 13th and a fox broke into the pen and ate them both
I collected the last egg she had laid that morning/night and placed it in the incubator. Anyhow I got 7 eggs out of them and thought only one to be growing. Then today I candled them all to see what and if anything changed and discovered another one all veiny with the black spot (eye or heart?).
So I have one at day 16 that I cannot see through anymore so I assume there is a duck in there. I can still see a bit of veins and an air pocket at the top. The other one would be at day 10 and it appears to be doing good,. So that means if they hatch at 28 days we will be the proud parents of 2 ducks around the 4th and the 10th of May.
So cross your fingers for us that we get some cute baby ducks out of our sad loss.
SORRY I haven been around my Internets been down (the DSL box malfunctioned) I have 2 that I believe have quit they wont move at all and I have 12 that are doing great PLUS 20 more eggs that I set 4 days ago and today is day 4 and I have 14 that have hearts and veins so i purchased another LG today when I got my other babies (Toulouse and African goslings, khaki cambel, and blue Swedish ducklings, 5 white leghorns, 3 polish AND a GREAT find 1 sultan Roo AND a sultan chick they sold them to me as a silkie paid 8 dollars for a full grown roo and 2 dollars for the chick, please chicky be a pullet
LOL)
how has everyone been doing these last 4 days?
I am sorry about your ducks! I hope the duck eggs hatch for you!
Thanks, I will keep you all updated on the progress...then we can post baby pictures! I can see this community of people feel very strongly to their feather babies as well, so its almost the same as having real babies!

I am SO sorry for your loss out of all my babies (I love them equally) but the ducks I think have the best personality's and are my fav's and its devestating to lose something you love especially to a predator I WISH you the very very best of luck in your hatch your situation reminds me of Charlotte's web when Charlotte passed and left Wilbur her egg sac thought that would lift your spirits a bit cdnley

Oh how sad!! A GF at work told me a story about her duck getting locked in the pen with her husbands hunting dog..wasnt a pretty sight. She said she'd never have another duck again. Congrats to you for not giving up!
We might have had a little bad turn ourselves. As it truns out me and my hatch buddy ended up having to go out of town over easter. (btw happy easter everyone) and solicited voulenteers to turn over the weekend. All our voulenteers turn on time but one turned them small end up! They were small end up for about 12 hours. We have them sitting at about a 40 degree angle and eggs cartons so a to help our prescoolers to turn and not have to pick them up. Would 12 hours with the small end up at day 14 be harmful?
I candled them again when i got home tonight and seen 7 movers, 3 maybes and 6 for sure no gos and i removed them tonight.
Another question on my maybees. I could still see the air cell and what i think might still be veining. One is perhaps a blood ring but i will look at them again just before lock down. But other than that i cannot see anything else. no movement or anything. The eggs are dark cornishes so they are brown and hard to see thru but these were ones that i for sure saw movement before on friday. Is it common not to see anything on day 14? are they just far enough developed theres no room to move or have they quit on me?
AH how frustrating! and imagine i waited patiently for 9 monthes when i was pregnant and now i cant wait 21 days.
Just keep swimming just keep swimming only 7 more days to go..we can do it peeps!
Okay, folks, we are in the home stretch! By this time next week, we all will (hopefully) have some baby chicks and ducks!
I think I have some quitters in my incubator,
I knew getting 36 out of 40 to hatch from shipped eggs would be asking for too much!
I thnk about 8 or10 of them have quit, but I'm going to keep them in just in case. Goodness knows, I'm No expert lol!
So Lockdown is on Thursday for me!
