I cannot wait for Lockdown either. I will begin on Thursday. I removed my quitters (one developed for a few days as I could see a big head and a tiny little body, the blue egg was infertile and the big white egg had a blood ring that I misjudge as veining for a while). All 14 others are happily moving about in their shells. I will be picking up 3+ dz. of Black Copper Maran/ Salmon Faverolle and EE eggs on Saturday and start all over again once the chicks leave the incubator.

On another note, one of my layers got sick on Thursday and I could have sworn she was egg bound and was going to die. Guess what, I think she has worms as she pooped out worms yesterday. I immediately dewormed her and will do the rest of the gang next week. She is feeling a lot better now and starting to eat again. She is also drinking a lot now. I heard a great recipe which is to deworm first and after that use 2 tsp of Cayenne Pepper per 1 Gallon of crumbles all the time to keep them dewormed. This way you don’t have to worry about the 2 week period after deworming with chemicals in which you cannot eat the eggs. Just an FYI to everybody. Seems like worms are very active right now.

I start lockdown Thursday aswel and I can't wait I had another quitter but everyone all the other 11 are fine and I have 2 more batches in a LARGE bator I made
I bought a second little giant bator and took a Beckmann coulter (medical transport) ice chest and made it a double decker installed the hardware from LG in it and a comp fan and it stays 100 deg alloyed in it so I paid 50 dollars for a incubator that's the size if 2 LG's lol

I set mine April 18th 14 serama, 2 silkies. This is my first hatch. Day 1 and 2.... I was using a homemade bator, but was unhappy with the temp fluctuations so I ran to the feed store and bought a LG . added my own pc fan , added f4 feeding tube (this is the same tube I used to tube feed one of my newborn puppies when he was bubbling milk through his nose, he made it and is 3 years old now) to add water without having to open the LG up. I added a plastic easter egg with a rubber balloon bladder that has a probe therm stuck in it. I ran my set up for 8 hours, was very happy with the steadier temp. Moved my eggs to the LG on day 3. began candling on day 5. 3 were infertile. one just had a black dot with no apparent veining. I assumed it was bad so I took it out. I opened it up and saw a little heart beating,I cried my eyes out. I killed one of my chickies through not knowing enough about serama eggs. I candled again on day 7.. one does not appear to have an air sack, but the egg is highly pourus . the black dot is bobbing so i am not pulling it out. I am only using distilled water in the bator because we are on well water here. I am running 99 to 100 degrees. 45 to50 humidity, turning 2 times a day the 10 seramas, and 2 silkies are bobbing and moving. I hope they all hatch out and are healthy

If there is something I am not doing that could improve their chances, please do let me know, I know very little about incubating eggs and I want to do a good job.

Hey Donna,

I turn my eggs 3 times a day, morning, noon and night. I also generally don't make decisions on candled eggs until day 12 unless they are empty. Sometimes a black spot is a blood spot and the egg must be discarded, but sometimes, as in your case, it is viable. Did you see an air cell in that one? I have had a very porous egg hatch a month ago and the chick was healthy so I wouldn't worry about that too much. Temp and humidity sound good to me

I feel kinda out of place in this thread because my eggs are being hatched automatically, by my broody hen.

But I think you guys are the lucky ones cause you have already been able to see your chicks! All I have been able to do is toe my hen off the nest just long enough to peek at how many eggs are under her. I am so excited. I can't hardly wait until Saturday. That is when I calculated them to be 21 days. I sure hope she hasn't done all this for naught. This poor hen has sit through countless tornado warnings, high winds and days and days of rain. I did try to shelter her when she first started with the bottom half of an old dog house. That has been a blessing for her and her nest. So far she has stuck right in there. I saw her off the nest the other day and she looked like she has dropped half of her weight.

Good luck to all and can't wait for baby pictures!
