We have a 2 year old Delaware Hen and she is the BEST! Loves to be around us and isn't afraid of anything but isn't aggressive either with other animals or anything - veru curious. And her and my DD and DH are all buddies . . . . I am only good for my veggie scraps! Off to get a good photo of...
Went to the vet - sent to get antibiotics - got them . . . vet said she looks better than yesterday.
Just wanted to bump this up and see if anyone had any good results from this or whether I should just plan on her passing.
Thank you!
Well, not quite sure what happened . . . alive and happy one day . . . dead the next. They were 3 days old when we got them - well, the first one, then got another and then when that one passed we got another . . . . and to go back - the very first one we got about a year ago . . . . did well...
Are Buff Orpington's less hardy than lets say . . . Delawares or PLymouths? We have had such a hard time with them - this is our 4th . . . the other birds seem much hardier.
Our 3 week old Buff Oprington looked like she was struggling to breath yesterday and then it got worse. Took her to the vet who said she had very little air moving in her lungs and was gasping. She said she probably aspirated some food. We were talking about putting her down because I didn't...
WHEW! Thank you for your responses. I read them last night - but wasn't able to log on to post a reply! I feel much better. I had read about it - but wasn't sure if that is what it looks like. She is a beautiful gal and I just love her to death!
"Hee hee... she looks like a q-tip...
This is Chowder - she is about 1 1/2 - she is the top hen (only 2 of them in the coop right now). Both hens stopped laying about 2 weeks ago - and we actually found an egg this morning - to our delight - then we saw Chowder. Looks like new growth but there are feathers all over the coop...
Thank you for your response.
Yeh - she seemed totally healthy and the other two are fine still - so we are just going to watch them. We would like to replace her - but we are going to wait. She wasn't even a year old - very sad.
Does anyone else have a take on the eggs? Should we throw them...
So this morning I went out to check on the hens and "Red" was dead. Bottom of the coop in the outside area - like she was laying down and head down. Looked her over - no apparent wounds. In great condition and health - saw her yesterday afternoon and she still looked as beautiful and healthy...
This post is interesting because we have just discovered we are having a mouse problem. We put out traps and nothing yet - DH set up traps with pb and tried all kindsa things - thye are now using a different route - moving the traps and steering clear of the pb . . . they are SO smart it is...
Poop is poop is poop is poop!
My daughter caught onto it really quick and now puts a towel on her lap while she is "playing" with the chicks - she learned really quickly that she didn't want to be pooped on! HAHAH
