I'm being bitten by red mite

This thread was originally started by me. To answer a couple of questions. Yes I did eventually get rid of the red mite on me. Once I used the sulphur bomb on the hen house I think I managed to kill all the red mite there so I stopped reinfecting myself. I kept treating myself using tea tree...

Here are some pictures of my five lovely laying girls. It looks like the front two are talking to each other! If you look in the background of this picture you'll see why my coop is like Fort Knox! My Jack Russell, Jessie, is a sweet dog but I wouldn't trust her with my hens. My...

Losing weight and not laying for 1 month

Oh this story is very much like my araucana. She's been about 10 days without eating properly and i am handfeeding every day now. She's very thin and i have treated her for most things. Not Cocci yet but i am unsure if i should treat her with this if she hasn't got it. I've got coxoid coming...

help please with my very sick araucana

Yes I've checked for mites/lice - absolutely no sign. She doesn't seem egg bound and I've given her a pretty good going over.

help please with my very sick araucana

She's 20 months old and only starting laying a few weeks ago. She stopped laying about 10 days ago. She has had watery poo with green in it but not today. She's thin and eating very little but I have been hand feeding her the so called recovery diet (egg yolk, oats, yoghurt, grated apple) but...

Aracana not eating and runny poo

All my chickens were wormed at the end of last year. Do you think I need to repeat it again?

Aracana not eating and runny poo

I have a black aracana 9 months old. She came to me as point of lay in October last year but didn't start laying until a few weeks ago which I put down to the cold winter we had. However, she isn't "thriving". She's fairly thin, and doesn't normally eat much. Her crop is always about 1/2 -...

    sad little aracana

Thank you all for your replies. I'll do as you suggest and put more feeders in the run.

    sad little aracana

I have been given a black aracana just about point of lay (about 18 weeks old) I have put her in with my other 5 chickens who are about 3 years old. She is getting a bit pecked but no serious injuries. However they are chasing her away from the food and when I check her crop at night she has...

    Red mite update

I know, the sludge was disgusting!! Perhaps i should also say that there isn't any DE where the girls actually perch and their house is well ventilated. Also i don't let them go in until the dust has settled.

    Red mite update

I posted on here about redmite and said I'd report back on the sulphur candle solution. Here's what I did: I washed the entire henhouse with Jeyes fluid and water from a pressure hose getting into the cracks. (Loads of mites came out like a sludge!) I treated the hens with Frontline. I then...

I'm being bitten by red mite

I'm in Pluckley (The most haunted village in England) which is between Maidstone and Ashford. Very pretty, it's where Kent apples come from and we are surrounded by orchards. Ok back to business. I don't think it can be bedbugs - never heard of them in the UK. Also, my husband and I sleep...

I'm being bitten by red mite

Yes I have a dog. Dog has had a bath, I have re-applied frontline to her and washed her bedding. There's only my husband and me at home and he doesn't have any, but he doesn't do much chicken stuff! I got some bite cream from the chemist today. makes the bites less itchy. I'm hoping that...

I'm being bitten by red mite

Thank you to everyone who replied to my red mite problem. The thing is I think the hens and coop are fine. But I am not!! The red mites are still on me after TWO hair shampoos with nit shampoo and numerous showers with different solutions including tea tree oil soap. I have about 30 bites...

I'm being bitten by red mite

Is that the thread you meant? It seems to be about one sick chicken. I am seeking advice for getting rid of red mite on me! My girls are doing really well. Nice red combs and wattles, regular laying and don't appear to be suffering. Today their house looks clean, nothing visible in any of...
