So, I've been feeding my quail Purina Startena, but I'm thinking of switching over to King Pheasant feed. Does this look good? http://king-brand.com/new/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=34&category_id=23&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=6
I have been hatching for a while- quail and chickens. But last fall I got some shipped eggs and they didn't hatch- I didn't think much because they were shipped. Since then I haven't had any hatches happen. I've got one that is supposed to hatch today/tomorrow, so we'll see what happens.
I...
I have some extra chicks from my last hatch that I'm offering for sale, straight run. I am near Colfax California, and often make trips to Sacramento and Yuba City.
These chicks were hatched 4/1. Some of the chicks are from my pen of only Dominiques. The rest of the chicks are from my free...
I strongly disagree. I have coturnix and cats. It can be done, you just need to keep them separate. When I am brooding new hatches I keep them in the house in rooms shut off from the cats, and you have to be very careful to keep them separate during that time, it would be one bite. As adults...
The other ideas are good, but they are less than 3 days old so they should be able to wait until tomorrow. But I've always had to run the game bird starter through the blender for the first week or so. Chick starter can be okay for a day or two if you have it on hand, but not for long term, and...
I finally read through this entire thread. Something that I have found that works for me is one of those thermometers that has a remote sensor for "outside." I put that one in the incubator, and then I can keep the main unit someplace where I can see it often. I don't have to keep going into...
I've always fed gamebird starter to my coturnix for their entire life. Some chicks just fail to thrive, but sounds like something did go wrong- it is hard to say at this point- virus, pasting up, a draft.... Just out of curiousity which medicated started did you use, and what was the...
I don't think that it's a "do not feed" thing. I think it's more that most chickens won't eat it. A neighbor of mine saves scraps for treats, and he often has citrus in it, most don't eat it, though they do eat everything else. None have had any problems with it.
I sell through a local food list and word of mouth, and extra roosters go into the freezer, or sometimes I take a batch to a USDA processor and then I can sell those too.
Today is day 21, so I still have some time to watch. I just took out the dry chicks and closed the incubator back up- total is31 eggs set, 16 hatched, 3 more pipping and peeping, and 12 that haven't done anything yet. I didn't bother to candle this batch since about a third of them were black...
