Yeah, but I travel every week so they would have to go 2-3 days unturned. These aren't even my eggs and I'm not getting anything out of it so I really can not worry to much about them. Hey, we've already found out that one egg feeds the whole family!
Hey, I have hatched thousands of chicken, turkey, quail, pea, pheasant, ect.... eggs. A friend of mine has emus that started laying for the first time. He asked me if I would incubate them for him. I know nothing about them other than the little I have read on here and the internet. I...
I wouldn't ever do that! That is something they do at commercial production farms with 1000's of birds. Shouldn't be too much trouble with fighting in a back yard flock. The free range boys will spar a bit in the breeding season but usually not too harmful. We eat all the really aggressive Toms.
Congrats on the new birds! I am really glad they didn't try to head for home the day you brought them to their new home. Yes, new peas or turkeys will usually take off heading for home if you turn them loose when you bring the to a new environment. Not trying to freak you out, if they have...
I have a Dickey's incubator and a GQF sportsman and a GQF hatcher. Like the Dickey's better than the GQF's. I just put eggs in once a week and write the hatch dates on the eggs. I hatch chickens with my pea fowl and guineas whit my turkeys to use as trainers to learn to eat and drink. Pea...
Pretty much, but blue slates are blue are not black. If you look at the pic you can see the black running down the legs. I never suggested they were the best of show quality BS turkeys but it's what they will turn out to be.
2 weeks is about as long as you want to wait. I set every week. I bought a few of those LG egg turners from TSC and keep them in a cool room. I travel so hand turning and tipping eggs is not an option for me. I have everything automated.
Yes, too hot will cause this. Also, eggs being stored too hot before incubation could start the process. You should really try to get your temp right. 50% hatch rate is not very good. If I ever see less than 80% I would be really upset.
You know what they say, you should never assume! Its really too early to tell for sure. They can really fool you at this age. You could guess and maybe get lucky but by about 12 weeks you can be sure.
