I am so excited.....I already have ducks and chickens and have already hatched my first round of chix in my incubator......I went yesterday and got my first pair of peafowl.......we have a beautiful 12 mo old mostly white female now named snowy......and a blue green male now named kevin........I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITED..........all day we have all 4 humans been walking around eyeballing our new additions..........they are so interesting.......although I think my chickens and rooster are SO NOT HAPPY!!!! everyone was in a panic this morning when I let them out..........but now all seems to be settling down..........the peafowl corner the chickens....and the chickens get sooooooo very quiet.........and huddle up.......like they are planning the exit strategy............I cant wait to see what tree the peafowl pick to roost in.......

Congratulations SO where are the photos of these lovelys?

Are you planing to free range them?
This is my newest addition Patch, he is 2 days old and already strutting his stuff.

thank you Im very excited.......my hubby thinks i have lost my ever loving mind......I ususally dont get out of bed till 9 am on the weekends.......yesterday and today I was up before 7 and he is freaking out.........says hes gonna get me new birds every week!!!!!..........I was just worried about them as we didnt put them up and dont plan on cooping them........but they did just fine.....and my chickens seem to be settling down today too.............

Nothing wrong with a little Pea therapy to get that enthusiasm going.

Peas really should be penned for at least a couple months so they know where home is.. if something were to spook them now and they took off flying you could foreseeable loose one or both cause they have not learned their new surroundings... they may do fine but i myself would not take that kind of chance and all my peas are free ranged.Just sayen

well thank you for that......the farm that we got them from had ducks and chickens and ect.....and when they got them from the guy they got them from they didnt pen them at all.......and the guy told me that as long as my other birds are around they shouldnt go anywhere.....and so far so good......they have been spooked by the dogs and cats and have taken flight a few times but I have enough structures for them to get on once they calm down they come right back.......its so amazing to watch them......i dont know what I will do when Bob (my male) gets his trane.......Ill prob follow him everywhere......camera in one hand and watermelon in the other........!!!

Congratulations! Pretty birds!

I have to second Zaz, penning your new babies for a while is probably a good idea.
From my own experience (and that of others here), finding and catching a pea that has gone astray is not an easy proposition...
How large is your property?

Congrats on the new birds! I am really glad they didn't try to head for home the day you brought them to their new home. Yes, new peas or turkeys will usually take off heading for home if you turn them loose when you bring the to a new environment. Not trying to freak you out, if they have stuck around a few days already then they may stay. Just don't try that again if you get a new pair. You may not be so lucky. The hen may lay a few eggs this year but the cock is too young to breed her. Next year they should both be ready to breed.
