I hope you get a good answer to this!! I can't help, but I did have a chick that was pecking on and egg that was pipping. It worried me so I removed the chick to brooder. But in your case that would not help!
It is day 23. I candled my remaining eggs in bator. I saw the air pockets, so I opened eggs (carefully!) and chicks were fully formed with the yolk sac still attached. The power went out on day 17 for 12 hours. I'm so sad. I DID get 3 chicks to hatch. but about 10 that didn't. I have 3...
I've had some like that. I wish I could help, but I have no idea!! Just give them a couple days and then candle again. I have always thought it was a thick shell.
thanks guys. I took the little guy out and put him under a light. That yolk looks like it is part of his body. I guess I never really knew what happened when a chick hatched, regarding the yolk. I had one hatch this morning with no problem, and another almost out. I don't feel too positive...
I just posted about my chick. I noticed some brown ooze under the egg, and then the chick pushed open the shell and there was still a yolk attached. I hope yours goes okay. I'm not sure if mine will make it.
I have some due the 13th. I'm not feeling too optimistic. My last batch I only got 5 out of 17. This time around the electricity has gone out, and numerous times the temp has been a bit high. I don't have anything to measure humidity. I candled them, and thought I saw something, but I also...
We had way too many roosters (hence, we butchered them last week), and my poor hens are just bald on their backs. It looks terrible, they seem to feel fine. When and how long does it take for feathers to grow back??
I roasted one of our birds last night. It was a little tough. Maybe I should brine it? The bird was older, about a year, and free-ranged, which I've heard can make meat tougher since they are using the muscles a lot. I like chicken prepared all ways, but roasting is my favorite. Any tips?
