Ok I got a couple of little giant nest boxes. Chickens are not interested in them at all. They prefer their old wooden boxes that I made.
There are lots of good reviews on them. Are they like a lot of online reviews. Are they just trying to sell stuff. Lol.
But anyways my girls don't...
I know that my coop is not bullet proof and a lot of things can get into there. So here goes the specifics of my issue.
All of my birds are young. Right around 8 mths, they should be laying. Have not got any eggs so far this year till I confined them all in a dog run while we had our...
Anything that use to be free or easy to come by is being scavenged by our friends from south of the border... they snatch it up like ants... if it can be useful or sold for pennies they take it....
They take them around here in Tulsa from placed they are not even suppose to take them from...
Had both hatches out of my incubator all hatch before day 21.... all were hatched by day 21 and all fluffed out. Pipping at 19 days is no big deal at all.
I used a large glass pyrex dish, like a 8x11 cake dish type. Larger surface area is the key. I keep my home made wineobator stays at around 50-65%... usually stays around 55%.
I have had really good hatched this go around with it.
Go to a place that sells used appliances and make one out of an old wine cooler. You can put the little turners from the little giant incubator in them and the already provided shelves.
I made one for about 150 bucks give or take 10 bucks.
Plenty of plans out there. I have mine getting...
Ok so after a couple of hatches with the wine obator that I made. I finally have it dialed in and can report the last 2 hatches have been successful.
One at a little over 80% and another at 100%. So needless to say I am pretty pleased with it.
I had 14 out of 17 and 17 out of 17 with the...
Well the wineobator did not work out so well... I ended up with 6 baby chicks out of 24... of course it could have been the eggs,,, but I believe it was the humidity ...
I broke down and purchased a hydrometer after a dismal hatch... and found out that my humidity was only around 45%.... way...
Amazon.com has plenty of 12v and 120v fans to choose from. I ordered my two from amazon and of course I ordered 2 in case the one craps out. I ordered a 120v just so I can wire it in to come on when my light bulb comes on.
I did not want to mess with the 12v and having to use a 12 adapter...
I candle eggs a little more than I should , and am kinda a newbie....well not beating around the bush... a really newbie... first hatch coming off today from my home made whineobator.
I candle every week and throw out any bad eggs. In hopes of avoiding just that situation.
Hope you get...
Happy to report that the whine obator works. I made the incubator about 2 months ago and after running it for about a month, I put 2 dozen eggs in it 20 days ago.
Last night I stopped the turner and placed the 16 that made it to this stage in the hatcher box, about 6 or 7 have pipped so far...
