I wanted to update you all... I have 7 healthy duckos from the 10 eggs :) :) Two died before they internally pipped, and one was weakly internally pipping for several days, so I intervened. Sadly that one died this morning. She perked up for 12 hours after I created a small breathing hole and...
Update!! Our first little pipper is out :) Hatched Thursday morning, and a full three days early...
Started zipping late last night and after three hours of struggling to stay awake, I tweezered a little hole to make sure little ducky was OK. After seeing yawning and chewing I left her...
Thanks everyone! OK, so over night, two more externally pipped. I'm at work today, so gone for 7 hours or so - I've cut a liner from cardboard and put that it just in case one hatches while I'm not here, making sure that it's fully inside so that the lid can close. I put the eggs very close to...
Thanks for your reply :) So this is day 4 (to go) on the incubator, but day 5 in my count (as I've read on here that you start the count 24 hours after they are put in the incy, but my incubator didn't do that - it's hella confusing!)
I'm aware how long ducks take, which is why I was sooo...
Hello, I've got 10 duck eggs incubating in a Brinsea Maxi Advance II - they were due to go into lockdown on Thursday, with hatching day on Sunday. I've come home after 2 days away, and 6 have internally pipped/are pipping, with one who has already externally pipped (it's Tuesday). 3 look fully...
Hey there,
I am borrowing the Brinsea Maxi II Advance to hatch 14 duck eggs. All is going OK so far (day 4 - with good development in 10 eggs), however I'm pretty upset by the lack of humidity reading on the machine. This seems like a basic requirement to me??
Anyway, grumpiness about this...
Hi there,
I'm hatching some duck eggs in a Brinsea Maxi II Advanced and I'm wondering how to set the turning timer? The info online says 4 times a day if by hand - but with an auto turner, I think I can only set it at a minimum to every 2 hours, which is 12 times a day and obviously radically...
Hi there,
I have a Pekin Cross who has been very unwell since this morning. After reading a lot and through my own experience, I suspected that she had egg peritonitis / possibly egg bound. After following the advice of the vet and having her on a heat mat inside, she was thoroughly miserable...
She pulled through :) She has a bit of splayed leg, but is otherwise healthy and cheeky!
I have put her on nutritional yeast and a vitamin supplement which will hopefully support her legs.
Thanks everyone - 2 outta 3 is OK :)
Thank you. I wanted to update you all as I often read through incubation posts for education and never find out the ending! The last little one is still alive, peeping and yawning. I made a much larger hole in the air sac this morning after no external pip over night - looks like there are...
Sadly the second duck died half way through the zip - I think there was some liquid pooled at the bottom of the egg and it drowned.... I was too late to help and I feel awful :( It was fully formed and had absorbed the yolk - I'm sure it would have been fine if I had assisted with the zip in...
I understand, I am very cautious and only make the smallest holes. It is so hard to wait though! The one that just hatched was really strong but I also ended up helping him out because I felt my humidity was off and he was really struggling to get through the membrane. After I made a hole...
Thanks :) I wouldn't say I am experienced, but have helped a few out now and I only ever do a very small intervention, and only when gut feel tells me it will help :)
