Waiting to paint pressure treated lumber is somewhat of a standard practice. A quick google search turned up numerous posts about this on contractor websites. Pressure treated lumber tends to have a high moisture content. Consider if you will, whether you would attempt to paint your interior...
I have been studying coop designs on the site recently. I already have what was supposed to be a chicken tractor, but then became too heavy to move around a lot, so I am planning to build a larger structure. I'm going to have a building with a permanent run, so I was wondering about fencing...
I live in Spotsylvania. I read that same ordinance and thought the same thing. Without a coop, where the heck are the chickens supposed to sleep and be safe from predators? Must be a typo.
Thanks Sumi. In the short term I will be looking for a boy to keep the flock in order, protect the hens, etc. Longer term I'll be looking for fertile eggs.
I am new to the chicken world, but I like to think and plan ahead. Knowing what I may be gettign in to helps me decide if I want to get in to it or not. So, while I currently have no roosters, it is possible I will in the future. Which leads to my question.

I currently have just 3 little RIR's. I wanted to make sure I was up to messing with them before I bought more than I could handle. I am pretty positive I want to get more down the road (not far down the road). So my question is this. Am I better off continuing to buy more RIR's (I'm looking...
I am jumping in to this thread way down the road. But I am making a point of reading every post.
I am a relocated city boy, living on the outskirts of town. I bought a couple acres and a house...and then I watched the world start falling apart. Greece, Spain, Portugal...maybe the U.S. one...
This is a question just out of curiosity, not desperation. I am new to chicken keeping and enjoying the learning process. However, being a person who likes to plan ahead, I am trying to determine if I may have a rooster on my hands.
2 1/2 weeks ago I got three chicks at my local tractor...
