Yeah, I’ve never been too keen on letting them breed during the winter myself (it gets cold here and even with a heat lamp chick mortality isn’t great) But I just wanted something to tell my dad. He wants some birds he can let out and watch fly again, lol! Breeding always is faster and more...
Hey there!
our flock just got ravaged by a raccoon, so we got some more birds. My dad was really attached to the old ones, so I’d just like to ask, about how long will it take pigeons to acclimate before they pair/mate up and lay eggs? Couple weeks? They’re all sexually mature. Thanks!
true, but I think those ones are fake and won't work for racing.
yeah, they're homers. 10'll prolly do just fine if you don't mind! I've only got three pairs that are consistently breeding, so there aren't too many babies left in the year, I'd expect.
I can't find any in stock! Will there be more bands made this year, or am I just out of luck? First year having pigeons, and I'm down to two bands. Any thoughts are appreciated!
Sorry for not replying! I brought him inside and he made a full recovery. I think he might’ve just sprained it or something. I gave him plenty of food and water and a small makeshift nest to rest in, as well as a very, VERY small amount of ibuprofen if he was clearly in pain as well as b complex...
Couldn't say-- again, I haven't seen the parents feeding them much, and the only time I've seen was the mom feeding. and I'll try the adding fresh feed thing.... I've just got to wait for mom to be hungry. She's full but the baby's only got one kernel of corn in its crop or so :(
Hey there. I've got two pigeon chicks, about a week and a half old. One is big and well-feathered, and the other one is tiny. A bit bigger than how she hatched, with a little bit of feather development. Pretty active, eyes open. Mom's feeding both, but the smaller one's crop is pretty...
For a bit of clarity, he can extend his full leg. He doesn’t want to, but he can. He cannot, as far as I know, extend the lower part of his leg. Could it be a tendon issue?
Hey there. I’ve been exercising my baby pigeon for a couple days now, as he’s about 5.5 weeks old, so I’ve just been letting him take small little flight sessions off of my hand. I think he got a bit too excited and tried to fly onto the floor of the loft, which is wire, and hurt his foot. He...
That’s what I’m thinking. I’m planning on building a larger loft (going to use the red rose plans off pigeon.biz) so hopefully once I move all the young birds and a couple pairs of breeders into the new loft there’ll be more room for the captive breeders. They’re got decent room as is, but more...
Alright, I will. Maybe on one of these warmer days I’ll fill up an old tub I have with some warm water, let them bathe and not freeze. Mustard seeds is an interesting idea, though I SHOULD have some in the spice cabinet!
To preface, I think my birds ARE happy, at least, as happy as breeders can be who are away from their home lofts, but I think they could be happier. Should I give them treats or anything? Do y'all have any tips for keeping your birds as happy as they can be? The young birds seem happy and...
