My family and I are interested in becoming a little more self sufficient. We have done one round of Cornish cross chicks for the freezer already. It went well, but there were some lessons learned. We did pasture them.

2 RIRs and 2 EEs. All 22 weeks and no eggs. My nesting boxes have been set up for 6 weeks now. I keep sharpening the axe in front of them but they don't seem to be bothered by the threat. Any words of advice?

While our family is already enjoying a small mixed flock for eggs, I've been tossing around the idea of raising some alternative poultry for meat. We unfortunately, do not have room to grow a decent sized chicken flock dedicated to meat. Quail seem to be more trouble than they're worth...
