Quitting Chickens? Strarting to sound good..

I really wanted them to be free range - you can tell they hate being locked up. The coop itself was secure, the deaths and disappearences were lways during the daylight hours. They are in a large 12 ft by 4 ft dog kennel in the garage now because we moved and don't have a coop until spring.

Quitting Chickens? Strarting to sound good..

Well I started out with four Light Brahma hens and an "oops" Brahma Rooster. Along with a one-legged ISA hen named Uno. Things went downhill when coyotes took two of my hens from me.. but things started looking up when Mama had 6 chicks last spring! Ladyslipper was a great dad and kept his...

Falling over, green watery poop, thin, but eating and drinking. Ugh. Help?

My hen had 6 chicks last spring and I'm down to the last one! Earlier this past fall, a different chick had strange symptoms that waxed and waned - her weight fluctuated, she couldn't seem to walk without falling to the right, and she just sat with her feathers fluffed. By the time I knew...

Heat Stroke? Losing hope.. One-legged Uno going down fast!

Also.. we did her PCV and CBC and chemistries at work and the only thing out of whack was her PCV, which was a low 18%. With this in mind, we took x-rays to rule out leukemia or some sort of tumor. The bllod smear looked relatively normal and the xrays showed no obvious tumors. So hopefully she...

Heat Stroke? Losing hope.. One-legged Uno going down fast!

She seems to have been doing better the last few days - still can't stand, but eating and drinking and cooing all the time. I've seen her balance for a few seconds, only to lay down once more. I'm hoping the extra rations will help build her strength. Any supplements I should be giving her? I'm...

Heat Stroke? Losing hope.. One-legged Uno going down fast!

Heat Stroke? Losing hope.. One-legged Uno going down fast!

She's eating and drinking now, which is great.. but she still can't stand. I don't know if she's just too weak?? I'm giving her chick starter crumbles for that extra oompf, cracked corn, yogurt, and electrolyte water. Is there anything more I can be doing?

Heat Stroke? Losing hope.. One-legged Uno going down fast!

My 3 year old one-legged chicken named Uno, an ISA hen, has always been very healthy and lively. We decided that with the heat being so bad lately, and her inability to get around in the heat without it being strenuous to her, that ventilating the coop more would help her to be more comfortable...

    Hen coughing/sneezing and runny poops

If you just purchased her, she may just be having a flare-up of coccidiosis. Most chickens normally have some of the bacteria in their system, however, in times of stress (like going to a new place) they become immunosuppressed and the bacteria get out of control. Just an idea.

Watery white stool with green, along with labored breathing, anorexia

My 7 month old Brahma Hen died a couple days ago. She stopped eating and drinking after developing a strange cough. After a day or two of having a watery white stool with bright green streaks, she also became weak and reluctant to move. I gave her a generic sulfadimethoxine from Farm and Fleet...

    Hello

Hey there! So I see you have some hens! Know anything about white runny stool laced with green, that goes hand-in-hand with a cough and anorexia??

    Hello

My name is Devin, and I anticipate graduating from Globe University with my Vet Tech degree in March 2012. I have three Brahma hens and a Brahma Rooster, and a mutt one-legged hen named Uno =] I joined this because my fourth Brahma hen, Petunia, recently died from an unknown cause that I'm...
