Thanks. My husband and father in law are just finishing a small coop w/ run adjacent to my large run & coop. I am going to move the babies in there and make this a gradual transition over the next few weeks. The flock will be able to see but not access the small ones. Thanks for your help!
Thanks for your suggestions. I have a 30 by 90 run attached to a 12x15 chicken coop for my main flock, so hope this will be plenty of room.
I introduced 10 week olds to the flock(I forgot to mention I have 4 two year old hens in this mix) about 3 months ago and had no trouble but I did not...
I have 9 week old pullets and roos that I want to incorporate into my existing flock of 30 six month old hens and 1 six month old BLRW rooster. I am not too worried about the pullets, but how will the older rooster react to the 9 week roosters?
This is one of what I believe is a pullet. No comb showing.
This is one of the roosters. I'm glad I did this because I am now able to see a little copper feathering showing up on him! His comb is much more evident, may be hard to see in this pic.
Same rooster, unfortunately comb got...
Unfortunately, I don't. However, I can tell you it is 65 degrees today here in Texas, even though it is winter:)
I really love the Sussex breed and would love to have more...I just need to get used to the wait for eggs! (to be fair I've only had hatchery run before..I've just recently delved...

I raised most of my cochins from chicks. My first one to lay was about 8 months old!
Thanks, that gives me some perspective..how old do you think my girl is?
Here's my Blue Cochin! I also have one with a much more silver head that I will need to get a picture of, I love the shapiness of the Cochins, but I am new to them. I confess, we have not had any eggs...am I too soon in my expectations? We purchased her 12 weeks ago, breeder said she was...
I tried posting this in a few other places...I purchased this light sussex 12 weeks ago. I thought she was 15 weeks at the time but I don't think that was right. Her comb and wattle still seem very light; I am just not used to these heavy heritage breeds. Any feed back would be appreciated...
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? We've had hatchery chickens for 3 years, just starting with heritage breeds and incubating hatching eggs!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 31 in the coop, 37 chicks.
(3) What breeds do you have? Older Hens= 2...
Thanks everyone and thanks for the welcome, ghillie! I am really excited to be here. We have had hatchery run for a few years and have just discovered heritage breeds. We are very addicted and excited to learn as much as we can!
