I did everything wrong...and still hatched!

Let's see...there are Seramas, Cochins, and Austrolorps, possibly a Bearded Booted Belgium bantam (say that fast after a glass or two of wine...) I've separated the little bitty guys from the bigger Austros. I put the Austros in with 6 other chicks that I bought to raise in my classroom...

I did everything wrong...and still hatched!

Several weeks ago, after coyotes killed several of my chickens I decided to try my hand at incubating some eggs. I had an old incubator in my classroom that I'd never used. I bought an automatic turner and a thermometer/barometer thingy. For 5 days I tried to get a constant temperature. NOPE...

    Chicken Obsession!

:wootWhy didn't someone warn me that chickens could easily turn into an obsession??? I think I have a chickaddiction! The only treatment would be MORE CHICKENS! I spend tooooo much time on BYC forum, then run down to the barn to try out the newest idea or treat. No food is safe here for DH...

    Plants for chicken run?

Hi, Ruth, Welcome to BYC and chickens, and am also from Louisiana where if it isn't raining it's time to mow the grass. I'm new to this, too, and I loved the AmEx commercial thought! Too funny...and too true! A friend recently told me about a chicken run that had a Lady Banks rose planted...

    Feeding different age birds together?

Help!! I've added two Austrolorp babies (8 weeks) to my flock of ladies that are about 5 months old. All free-range all day, and I've been mixing layer pellets, starter crumbles, cracked corn together and letting them pick what they want or need. BUT, now I'm worried that the "little girls"...

    Low Spouse Impact Chickens

When the 4 ducks came, my precious husband barely spoke to me for 3 days... The pain seems to have passed now; when I started talking about chickens he just sighed...A LOT! I now have 10...he really likes the bantam rooster. Good luck! Chickens are great therapy and RELATIVELY inexpensive!

Boy, HollyClyff really did an awesome job on that coop! I have a very clear idea that mine is not going to be that fancy! Like someone said, the chickens won't know. My problem is that this frame is metal. Anyone worked around a metal frame? Thanks, Cindy

    Northeast Louisiana

I'm here in northwest LA, Shreveport. But my mother's family is all from the Rayville area. Know any of the Gibsons? I just went chicken crazy about 3 weeks ago. Someone gave me some ducks in June and the craziness jumped on me from that! :-) I have a bantam Old English roo and hen, 2...

    FIRST EGG!!!!

WHOO-HOO!!!! "We" layed our first egg yesterday. I've only had my chickens two weeks and my bantam hen laid an egg yesterday! I didn't notice it until mid-morning, it was broken on the bottom of the coop and was obviously soft-shelled, but she laid one! Hope it gives the other "girls" the...

    Finished the swingset chicken coop

Boy, HollyClyff really did an awesome job on their coop! I have the very clear feeling that our metal swingset just isn't going to turn out like that. But, like you said...the chickens won't care. Laugh for the day: let the "girls" out of the tractor to free-range today; then caught the...
