    Thunderstorms - Old Wives Tale??

To expand this further does a barometric pressure drop cause issues? Does the membrane react to a pressure drop making it harder to pip? We also had several severe thunderstorms about hatching time and lost the entire batch. However we also lost power to the incubator for 3 hours or so while...

Day 28, float test potentially viable + movement - more time?

We have 13 eggs. Yesterday evening we noticed the first shaker. It was still shaking this morning, but not piped yet. Since nothing else appeared to be moving we decided to float test again (second time). We had one sinker at the first float test and the rest looked to be ok. This float...

organic pasture for free range chickens

Like the previous poster said it is at least three years of no unauthorized chemicals. That is why our egg chickens are organic [inside the picket fenced yard], but the meat chicks, ducks, geese, and turkeys won't be for another year. My family has been using our main field for cows and has...

Where is a hatchery where the min is NOT 15 Turkeys?

I know for a fact that chocolates at ideal are min 10 even though it isn't on the site. We tried to just order 8, but got a call the next day and had to upgrade to 10. Hopefully we will get them on the 11th.

Ideal is a 10 min isn't it? At least on Chocolates it is. We'll get ours on the 5/11/11

How big a pond do ducks need?

Ok, I had to take a break after pulling up posts all morning and running the fence back out some for room to dig so I figured while I was in here I'd ask this. Right now we have 11 ducks total (and 2 geese), but we will also let them hatch and likely even incubate a few extras. So eventually...

New packing peanut babies (please help ID)

Thanks for the help. After I saw the RIR suggestions I did some google image searching and I think that is what they look like too. At least they forage pretty well and will be bigger than our Andalusians so any I can't give away locally will be useful eventually.

    Our Pekins at 2 weeks

We thought that last picture was clearly the best of all of them too. I don't know how we got lucky enough to catch that expression but it is totally adorable.

    New Welsummer babies

Quote: Meyer does have them available pretty quickly again, but their shipping is the highest I've ever paid before. Ideal is the hatchery I usually use, but they are out of stock until fall. I think Meyer was the one that wanted $35 to ship six chicks! OUCH! Well.... yes the shipping on...

New packing peanut babies (please help ID)

Quote: This is only the second time I've gotten packing peanuts. The first time it was just two more Blue Andalusian roosters and an extra hen in a box with 12 hens and 2 roosters that I bought. So those were just a nice surprise and VERY welcome. For these chicks once they are out of the...

Our new babies - Crested fawn and white runner ducks

Our son just HAD to have runner ducks when he saw a picture. And then once he saw the crests he had to have them too. They are just a few days old, but are already fun to watch and handle (we're making sure we work with them more then the Pekins we just got so they don't get too wild).

    Our Pekins at 2 weeks

We picked up 6 Pekin at Tractor Supply on 4/11. They are pretty cool and seem to be doing well, but are fairly wild now (only handled them every other day or so). Now if I only had time to finish digging the pond and waterfall.
