Our neighbor across the alley had two chickens, but one was eaten by a fox. With only one left, that chicken decided to join my flock, so we now have a foster chicken, so to speak. She looks pretty interesting, but I've been unable to find out what breed she is. Do any of you have any ideas?
Thanks everybody, I'll make sure to tell her what she is when I get home from work
Like so many of us, I live in a neighborhood, so no roosters. My boys are 6 and 7 years-old, so I'd prefer to wait a little bit before teaching the lesson of what else chickens are good for besides eggs.
Here's a couple of pictures of one of my 6 production RIRs. I'd been convincing myself that I had lucked out and got all hens when I picked them up at TSC 11 1/2 weeks ago. Then, yesterday we were having a yard sale and an elderly lady noticed them. She was really pleased to see them and told me...
Our local newspaper, the Siskiyou Daily News, has put up a poll on their homepage about this:

Strongly pro-chicken so far.
As a "New Egg," you're not allowed to post pictures yet. I know because I'm a New Egg too and asked the exact same question you did a couple of weeks ago. I bought 6 red pullets from TSC just before St. Patrick's Day and they all turned out to be RIR's.
I didn't see this thread when I posted my "Chicken Rights" thread. I will let that one die as all the action is here. I wish I could make it to the next council meeting, but I live in south county and have an afternoon meeting that day. However, as I plan on moving to Yreka in the near future, I...
As far as I can tell, there was no freak-out yesterday, and she seems to be getting better about venturing out from the corners now. Hopefully she's on the mend. Too bad it had to be Teriyaki as she was one of the more personable chickens prior to the attack.
I have 6 four week old RIR's that I have just transferred from the closet to the coop. One of them (named Teriyaki) has started freaking out for no apparent reason. She will suddenly start cheeping VERY loudly and run from one end of the coop to the other, smacking into walls, eventually trying...

People just don't know how to react in circumstances like this, especially if they have never experienced it. I remember a quote from a book that kind of summed it up for me: "If you have ever lost someone very important to you, then you already know how it feels; and if you haven't, you cannot...
Thanks for getting back to me everybody! We took some more pictures this morning and I uploaded them to Photobucket. The link is below. Unfortunately, I was in a hurry to leave for work and the chicken was not cooperating, so they're not very good. Hopefully they will be good enough...
Hello everybody. We're just starting out in the world of chickens and have found this website to be awesome. It was instrumental in helping me to make up my mind and take the plunge into backyard chickening. About a week before I had intended on buying 3 or 4 sex links at our local feed store...
