Ayup. The owner sounds like people I have known in the past. If that is the case, informing him of shooting a dog would be a mistake. I'd talk to the sheriff and if he said do what you need to protect your property, I'd SSS one by one until they no longer came onto the property. I know...

Ha, anyone near Commerce, GA? That would be a loving spoonful!
I was having a hard time seeing exactly how bad the would was... darn these over 40 eyes! It's at least a 4" rip in the skin and I do think I saw a small bone. I will get to her first thing in the morning and check it...
Hey,
DH took hen to bed her down before I thought to get a picture, but the gist of it is that the roos have been rough with her and she has a gaping wound under her left wing. It wasn't really bloody and it didn't look infected so I cleaned it as best as I could and drenched it with...
I don't know about other states, but in Georgia, it is illegal to relocate a trapped raccoon because of the prevalence of rabies. The only choice is to dispatch.... or let it keep feasting on chickens.
Oh, I can aim a bottle rocket with a launcher pretty good. Great idea, but they are illegal here except New Year's and 4th of July. We have cops living in the subdivision that adjoins our property. They'd have a conniption fit if we tried that. And we've been subject to drought conditions....
Here's some info for MN: http://www.bah.state.mn.us/diseases/rabies/
The vast majority of rabies cases reported each year occur in wild animals such as skunks, bats, foxes, and raccoons. Domestic animals account for less than 10 percent of the reported rabies cases. Cattle, cats, and dogs are...
It could have been a muskrat. It sounds like a rabid one at that. We killed a rabid muskrat here a couple of years ago... nasty looking little critters and the one we encountered was acting crazy and hissing just like what you described. Make sure your doggie is up on his rabies boosters!

See, this is what I have been reading over and over in regards to problems with dogs. There seems to be some sort of "disconnect" with dog owners about what their responsibilities are to their dogs and to their neighbors. I am well aware that accidents happen and that dogs will...

Yep, but I refer to them as "giant rats" due to the uncanny resemblance.
In lots of places, all the quail and rabbits have been completely wiped out. There are papers that mention that since cats will kill just for fun, they'll kill all the prey animals and not just what they eat...

I agree to a point... I don't believe all people who SSS do act rashly, but that they feel letting the dog owner know would create lager problems. We've never had to do anything like this, so I guess I really can't speak from experience. I can imagine that there might be an occasion...

IF there wasn't blood being shed. Then it'd likely be SSS. I've read too many accounts in this forum alone about chicken or livestock owners letting the dog owner know what had been done and then the retribution that followed. I used to think honesty was the best policy, but I think I'm...

Do you mean domestic cats? I'm curious....
We've got a mating pair of red tails and a Cooper's Hawk that are keeping us busy. The bantams free range and have become the Red Shirts. I walked outside just in time to save Florence the Buttercup from the Cooper's Hawk last week. He had...
