Duckings: you turn your back for 2 minutes

So true! Just a few months ago I got 2 more ducklings and I had them in our shed in their brooder, and one day, my dad decided to let them onto the grass for a little while to forage. Well, I was gone, and he calls me and says he lost my ducklings! Apparently he'd walked back into the shed to...

    What breed would be best?

I have a friend who wants ducks, but she doesn't know what kind to get. She wants some that will lay a lot of eggs - like the Khaki Campbell, but she would prefer bantams.....I can't think of any bantam duck that lays a lot.....Also, she would like to be able to bred them and sell the ducklings...

    niacin?

Well, I've had ducks for 3 years now, and until a little while ago, had never heard of ducks needing niacin......I've done so much research and reading on ducks before and since I've had them that I'm really kicking myself for missing this crucial detail. The only thing is, I was reading about...

    Parakeets in West Michigan

Oh, I wish we lived closer! I've been trying to convince my parents that a parakeet would be a good pet for quite some time now, and yours are beautiful, and from what you've said sound exactly like what I was looking for.

    Blue Swede compared to Rouen

Squeak must be a mix then, because she has 2 eye stripes (Rouens always have 2, while mallards only have 1.)

    Shed for ducks

My neighbor did. I don't have any pictures, but they didn't really do much to it....I mean, the ducks are only in there at night, so my neighbor just puts hay on the floor and closes the ducks in at night.

    Are these Call Ducks?

I don't know if those are call ducks or not, but you asked in the video of your ducklings how to tell their genders. http://www.metzerfarms.com/SexingVideo.cfm?CustID=1025320 This link is for a really great video from Metzer farms (a hatchery) on how to tell the genders of day old ducklings and...

    Difficult Ducks

Ducks normally take about 6 to 8 months to start laying, depending on the breed and the bird. There are a few ways to get them to start laying early, but a duck that starts laying early oftentimes has layer problems later on, so it's better just to wait.

2 new Aylesbury girls, how do i introduce them to existing flock?

Are the new ducks adults, or ducklings? If they're adults, I don't think you should have a problem; at least, I haven't in the past. By your post, I'm guessing that the new ducks are adults, so here's what I would do: Try putting the new ducks in with your other ducks and see what happens. My...

    Expanding the flock?

I don't know about your ducks, but my ducks would definitely kill any ducklings I put in with them. I always wait until they're big enough to defend themselves. Here's a thread that you might find helpful : https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/686376/agressive-drake

    Agressive Drake

How old are the new ducks now? My ducks and drake would kill any ducklings I put with them, even when they were full grown I had trouble integrating the new ducks because my older ducks would attack them. During the day I would put the new ducks into my not yet planted fenced in garden, so they...

    So far I love ducks.

I was thinking about getting my ducks some minnows to put in their kiddie pool....Just kinda a fun thing to watch them dive after them, but you said if they have access to fish their eggs taste different? What do they taste like? Just stronger?

    Rouen/Khaki Campbell Drake

I found a home for him at a little plant nursery with a big pond and lots of other ducks to play with. :)

Duck has its mouth open. What's wrong?

when my ducks were setting they would open their mouths and keep them open whenever I was around, kinda trying to ward me away....You said you think she's a female? Could she be hiding a clutch somewhere and be trying to guard it?
