4 of the chicks that I just hatched came from Nadine's eggs! Lovely little Black/Blue Copper Marans chicks, and I'm setting some more of her eggs tonight :-)
What a nerve-wracking journey... got an Octagon 20 Eco midway through incubation due to temp spikes and general awfulness from my not-entirely-trustworthy LG. Hatching some eggs from my flock plus the survivors of some black/blue copper marans eggs that were horribly abused by the post office on...
In the midst of a battle with a tenacious raccoon myself... nasty little bugger took 3 this summer. Closed all the obvious gaps in the run, and all was well for awhile. Turns out that he was taking a break to work on his strategy and managed to find another way in. After about a month of peace &...
Can't even count them anymore... At least 13. A couple are still zipping, but the first ones to hatch are probably getting hungry by now so I think a trip to the brooder is inevitable. Looks like maybe 5 or 6 late quitters, but the ones who made it are adorable! I'll get pics tonight.
chknut- I've had some that hatched with a fair amount of membrane/umbilical cord/unidentified goop attached, and they turned out fine so long as I left them alone. It generally seems to dry up and fall off on its own after while. As far as the chick not moving around... they seem to need alot of...
Awoke to a total of 9 chicks in the bator, and at least 6 more pipped/zipping! Looks like I've got a fair number of rumpless chicks, thus EE or araucana crosses, but my flock is such a crazy gumbo of genetics that figuring out everyone's parentage may be impossible. The main thing I wanted out...
Congratulations to everyone's chicks! Came home to find one fully hatched and another 1/2 dozen pips, so tonight and tomorrow look like they're going to be exciting!
Candled for the last time, took out one more early quitter and went into lockdown yesterday, and have actually managed to get the humidity to hold reasonably well (unlike my last 2 hatches).
I was rewarded this morning with 3 pips! I hear some cheeping in there, and temp and humidity still look...
So I set 25 eggs, assuming that some of them would be infertile... 24 developing eggs, from the looks of it, and 1 blood ring.
I guess this is what happens when you have 4 roosters. Here's hoping the EE & araucana roosters are the culprits for at least some of them
I'll join as well; I set 25 eggs on Weds. the 10th. They are all mutts, but some will hopefully be EEs. I have 1 mutt rooster (Dinosaur Chicken), 1 EE rooster and 2 araucana roosters, so the odds are pretty good. Really hoping for some EE or araucana x half-silkie chicks... they would be...
I have an extra 6 month old cockerel that I'm looking to rehome; I bought hatching eggs from a breeder, and ended up with WAY too many roosters. He is rumpless & non-tufted- his offspring will not have tufts, but he will pass on the blue egg gene.
Willing to deliver within a fairly wide radius...
This is Battle Hen- her mom is a black silkie, and her dad is a SLW x black sex link mix. She's midway between bantam & standard size, with black skin and all the other silkie features except the silkie feathering, obviously. Picture isn't great, but she was not in a cooperative mood today, for...
